The 2026 AiR Program is a collaborative partnership between Mackie Lake House Foundation and Vernon Public Art Gallery, designed to support the development of an artistic project or series. The resident artist will reflect on how heritage and culture can “collide” with the arts immersed in the setting, community, and daily happenings of a beloved heritage property.
The artist will have access to the heritage home and to the five acres of surrounding grounds. Be aware that Mackie Lake House is an active heritage site with public and private events throughout the residency. Most events take place on weekends.
The artist will be expected to participate in public programming promoting the residency, such as an artist talk, workshop, or demonstration, to be determined with Mackie Lake House staff.
Following the four-week residency (from September 14 to October 8) at Mackie Lake House, the selected artist will present a solo exhibition at the Vernon Public Art Gallery from October to December, 2026. The exhibition can include both finished and in-process works produced during the residency.
We welcome submissions from emerging, mid-career, and established artists across all visual art disciplines, ranging from experimental and interdisciplinary practices to contemporary practices in painting, illustration, sculpture, photography, video, and more. Artists who identify as BIPOC and LGBTQIIA+ are encouraged to apply.
