The Melanin Files is where stories unfold with depth, culture, and intention—centering the voices and experiences of Black women across every facet of life. In this special feature, we’re bringing together powerful narratives from Black women who are choosing joy and whimsy in their daily lives, authors sharing stories written for us and by us, and HBCU graduates reflecting on the legacy and impact of their experiences. We’re also spotlighting Black female interior designers to watch, women making bold moves in higher education, and those carving out space in wellness—from farming and fitness to holistic healing and eco-conscious living. This is a celebration of presence, creativity, growth, and impact—real stories that honor the beauty, brilliance, and evolution of Black women.

Your story could be the reminder another woman needs to embrace her own light.
We’re inviting Black women ages 21 and up to reflect on and share what their HBCU experience truly means/meant to them. Beyond the classrooms and campus life, HBCUs hold stories of identity, legacy, community, and transformation. How did your time there shape who you are today—your confidence, your connections, your sense of purpose? Whether your memories are rooted in lifelong friendships, cultural pride, personal growth, or unforgettable moments, we want to hear your story. Help us honor the impact and legacy of HBCUs through the voices of the women who lived it.
