If your ability to accept a full academic year is contingent on obtaining external support that is at present uncertain, please:
(a) request funding for only one semester;
(b) draft your narrative with a single semester timeline in mind while making it clear to reviewers that your project is extendable to a full academic year AND you will seek such an extension if external support is awarded,
(c) list source(s) from which you are seeking external support.
Please note that requests for extension of the fellowship to a full year if external funding is obtained will be considered favorably. However, requests to shorten an awarded Fellowship from a full year to a single semester are not normally granted.
If your ability to take a full academic year fellowship is not contingent on external support, or if external support has already been obtained, please disregard the recommendation above and request a full academic year. You may want to indicate what external support has been attained or why external support is not necessary in your narrative.
Once a fellowship has been approved, any modification requests should be provided in a timely manner in advance of the fellowship start date and will only be granted in exceptional circumstances after careful consideration and review by the Chair, Dean, Chief Research Officer, and the Office of the Provost.
