Ch/Art Coffee Shop Wall

Call for Artists:

A new coffee shop called “Barista” will soon be opening in The Arcade at 5520 Connecticut Avenue, with an estimated opening date of early-mid June. The owner, Mike Abbariki, has agreed to reserve a gallery wall dedicated to Ch/Art members that will rotate every 6-8 weeks throughout the year. The wall is approximately 22'-0" wide and 12'-0" high.

Ch/Art members are eligible to submit up to two pieces per 6-8 week show. All submitted artwork must be available for purchase by members of the public. Artwork not sold during the show may be replaced with artwork of a similar size, depending upon the needs of the owner to maintain the appearance of the gallery wall.

For each 6-8 week show, the application will remain open to submissions until the date specified in the email invitation or until space is full (whichever comes first), at which point the application will be closed and members will be notified. There will be no fees or commissions charged in connection with this opportunity.

Please note that the gallery wall will be curated by Ch/Art member Kimoy Lallement, on behalf of the shop owner. The curator and shop owner retain full discretion as to the selection of art they deem appropriate for the space. Please also understand that while every care will be taken in handling artwork, the venue’s insurance policy does not cover art exhibited in the coffee shop. 

Submission Rules & Requirements:

·      All submitted work must be suited for hanging on a wall and be ready for hanging at the time of drop-off.

·      Although there is no specified theme, nor any restriction on price or size, we encourage you to consider pieces that will compliment a family-friendly neighborhood coffee shop environment.

 ·      Artists are responsible for handling all purchase transactions. No commission or fee will be assessed by the coffee shop owner or by Ch/Art.

·      Each label must include a QR code that links to either (1) your preferred direct pay method (e.g. paypal) or (2) your artist page on the Ch/Art website.

·      We strongly recommend that you choose option (1) above and submit with your application a QR code that connects purchasers directly to a payment method. Otherwise, Ch/Art will supply a QR code that connects purchasers to your artist page on the Ch/Art website. 

·      Artists are expected to respond to purchases and purchase inquiries within a 36-hour period. 

·      Within 36 hours of receiving payment, the artist must send a confirmation email to the shop AND to Ch/Art. Only then will the shop mark the item sold and allow the buyer to collect the piece.

·      Lack of responsiveness to purchases/purchasing inquiries may result in the artist being excluded from subsequent shows.
