The Leadership Mindset: Behavior Expectations
At the Vinny the Fly Creative Leadership Camp, our mission is to provide a "practice ground" for character and confidence. We believe every child is a leader-in-training, and we anticipate all attendees will:
Lead with Kindness: Use their voice to encourage others and treat peers and staff with genuine respect.
Carry Their Part: Stay engaged in "Team Practices," follow the guidance of our mentors, and take responsibility for their role in the group.
Foster Courage: Maintain a positive, "can-do" attitude that helps create a supportive environment for everyone.
Honor the Space: Value the camp resources and the personal property of their fellow leaders.
Behaviors That Hinder the Team
To protect the safety and growth of all campers, the following behaviors are considered inconsistent with our leadership goals:
- Bullying, ridiculing, or intimidating others.
- Physically aggressive acts or confrontations.
- Persistent defiance or disruption that prevents the team from moving forward.
- Intentional damage to camp amenities or the property of others.
Our Approach to Support
When a child struggles to meet these expectations, we see it as an opportunity for growth and "heart-level" coaching. Our team will take the following steps:
A Leadership Reminder: A gentle, verbal conversation focused on the "why" behind the behavior.
A "Reset" Moment: A brief pause from the current activity to reflect and prepare to try again.
Parent Partnership: We will contact parents to discuss the concern and work together to support the child’s success.
Removal from Session: In instances of severe misconduct or repeated infractions that affect the safety of the group, parents will be asked to collect their child for the day. (Please note: no refunds are provided for behavioral removals).
