Dear Senator Bennet and Attorney General Weiser,
We, the undersigned members of the Colorado Democratic Legislative Caucus and Democratic candidates, ask that you take a stand in support of workers over billionaires by publicly committing to sign the Worker Protection Act, should it come across your desk as Governor.
Colorado's current labor laws are actively hostile to workers, giving an unfair advantage to mega-corporations. Colorado is one of the bluest states with a Democratic “trifecta” yet it is unreasonably difficult for workers to form a union.
You have the power to fix this by supporting the Worker Protection Act. Your public support of the Worker Protection Act will send a strong message to voters in the Democratic Party and across the state that Colorado is a pro-union and pro-worker state.
Billion-dollar corporations and the politicians who listen to them profit from a system that keeps workers quiet, keeps wages low, and makes it incredibly hard to form a union. We need to fight back in Colorado by passing laws that support workers to form a union without intimidation and eliminate the legal requirement for a second election designed to undermine workers.
Unions are building blocks of democracy, critical to the fight against Trump and authoritarianism.
Prioritizing billionaires over workers is the politics of the past, which has led to the dismantling of our democracy and the current fascist regime at the national level. The politics of the future fosters democracy at every level, including in the workplace, and prioritizes policies that improve the quality of life for working people.
There is no reason for any second election: Stand with workers over billionaires and publicly support an unamended Worker Protection Act.
