TurtleRescue of Long Island (TRLI) Placement Policy TRLIwill be happy to help you place your turtle or tortoise, however, wemust ask for a surrender fee. We have a standard fee of $50.00 and ifthere is more than one turtle or tortoise then $10.00 will becollected for each additional turtle or tortoise. This fee is notnegotiable. We do our best to locate a local home for them (exceptfor Sulcata), but most of the time this is not possible and theanimal needs to be shipped. This fee helps to offset the cost ofshipping (which is quite expensive), maintaining the animal until ahome is found and also goes toward any vet care necessary for animalscoming into the rescue. In the case of Sulcata tortoises, the personsurrendering the tortoise will also need to provide a crate forshipment (a hard plastic dog crate works) or pay a fee for us toobtain one. ($35 for tortoises under 14 inches, $70 for tortoisesover 14”). In addition, a health certificate from your vet must be provided (SeeFederal Law on home page), if you don’t have one from your vet wewill acquire one from ours.If you have a turtle or tortoise that needs to be placed please fill outthe form below and someone will be in touch with you.
