    Reports to: Executive Director
    Department: Facilities & Operations

    Hourly Wage: $12-$15.00

    Position Summary

The Janitor/Custodian team member is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Love Community Center. This position supports a large, shared-use community facility with offices, conference rooms, public spaces, library areas, dining and kitchen spaces, restrooms, child and family areas, and recreation and wellness spaces, including fitness areas, locker rooms, showers, pool entry areas, and gym-related spaces.

This role requires strong attention to detail, consistency, professionalism, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy public-facing facility serving community members of all ages.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform routine daily and nightly cleaning of assigned areas throughout the building, including offices, conference rooms, public entries, common sitting areas, dining spaces, kitchens, library areas, social service spaces, child care rooms, fitness areas, locker rooms, showers, restrooms, hallways, and other shared-use spaces.

Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust mop, and maintain a variety of floor surfaces, including carpet, concrete, tile, rubber flooring, mats, and other high-traffic surfaces. Community-center and custodian postings commonly include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, auto-scrubbing, and floor machine use as core duties.

Clean and sanitize public and staff restrooms daily, including toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, counters, dispensers, partitions, fixtures, and floors. Restock paper products, soap, and other restroom supplies as needed.

Clean surfaces daily, including work surfaces, desks, tables, counters, chairs, furniture, ledges, shelving, and other accessible horizontal surfaces. Remove dust, fingerprints, smudges, spills, and visible buildup from high-touch and frequently used areas.

Empty trash and replace liners throughout the facility, including interior public areas, offices, locker rooms, and exterior trash receptacles.

Maintain locker rooms, showers, pool entry areas, and fitness spaces to a high sanitation standard, with special attention to moisture-prone and high-use areas.

Clean glass in entryways, doors, mirrors, and other interior-facing surfaces to maintain a streak-free, presentable appearance.

Operate routine custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, auto scrubbers, mops, dust mops, and other janitorial tools safely and properly. Floor equipment use appears regularly in comparable postings.

Support room resets, table and chair movement, and basic setup or cleanup for meetings, programs, and community events. Recreation-center custodian postings commonly include setup and cleanup responsibilities tied to rentals and public events.

Monitor building appearance and report maintenance needs, safety concerns, damaged fixtures, plumbing issues, supply shortages, and unusual conditions to a supervisor in a timely manner.

Follow all cleaning protocols, safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and infection-control or sanitation expectations applicable to a public-use facility. EVS roles in Indiana commonly stress cleaning and sanitizing services that support safety and infection-control standards.

Work independently and as part of a team, maintain professionalism around the public, and help uphold the overall appearance and readiness of the building each day.
