In many cases, the issue isn’t effort.
It’s the approach.
Most programs only teach memorization of sight words.
But many learners need to start with:
✔️ How words sound
✔️ How sounds connect to spelling
✔️ How meaning ties it all together
When that foundation is missing, progress feels slow—or inconsistent.
Kids who struggle with handwriting because the learn differently also benefit from a different approach because handwriting is SO MUCH MORE than a fine motor skill.
They need to learn:
✔️ How to incorporate non-motor mental processes into handwriting (letter writing uses working memory, languages skills/ letter naming, planning skills, visual and sensory information, and the begins to activate brain power needed for reading)
✔️ How to organize the information their brain needs for letter writing
✔️ How to begin learning letters in a way that makes them feel successful then build to word writing as quickly as possible
✔️ How to write all letters accurately and efficiently without needing to spend a whole week on a single letter
