  • Call to Artists: East Mesa Community Park Murals

  • The City of Yuma Division of Arts and Culture invite artists to submit original artwork designs for three new mural opportunities at East Mesa Park in Yuma. These murals will bring vibrant, engaging public art to the park while enhancing spaces where families, children, and community members gather.

    We are seeking designs that reflect the spirit of play, nature, and community.

    Selected designs will be purchased as design-only submissions and adapted for mural installation by the City. This is an opportunity to bring creativity and imagination into a space that will be enjoyed by the community for years to come.

  • PROJECT OVERVIEW

    Mural Locations: Three separate wall sites within East Mesa Park 

    • Playground Mural Elevation A
    • Playground Mural Elevation B
    • Restroom mural

    Design Submission: Artists are only asked to submit original design concepts; fabrication and installation will be managed by the City.

    Public Display: Murals will be installed on durable, exterior-grade surfaces suitable for long-term outdoor display.

    Design Considerations: Artists should submit designs that are visually impactful, family-friendly, and adaptable for outdoor mural production.

    Call Opens: April 28, 2026
    Submission Deadline: August 13, 2026
    Artist Notification: August 25, 2026
    Design Finalization: September 4, 2026
    Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: Early November 2026

  • ELIGIBILITY 
    Open to artists 18 years and older from Yuma County and beyond. Solo artists, teams, muralists, and visual artists of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Prior mural experience is helpful but not required.

     

    ARTIST STIPEND 

    Selected artist will receive a $3,000 stipend for the three (3) murals designs.
    Please note: the stipend covers design work only. Fabrication and installation will be managed by the City.

     

    DESIGN GUIDELINES 

    • Each mural must feature a unique design, colorful and vibrant.
    • Artwork must be appropriate for a public, family-friendly environment.
    • Designs should consider durability and outdoor conditions.

     

    EVALUATION CRITERIA 

    Designs will be reviewed by the Yuma Parks, Arts, and Recreation Commission based on: 

    Visual Impact – 20 points
    Interpretation and Creativity – 20 points
    Composition and Design – 20 points
    Craftsmanship – 20 points
    Design Criteria and Eligibility Guidelines Met – 20 points
