    The Mr. & Miss Juneteenth Scholarship honors the strength, sacrifice, and progress of those who came before us by investing in the next generation. Through the support of Juneteenth GVL and our community of donors, we are proud to pour into students who are ready to lead, grow, and carry the torch forward.

  • Eligibility Requirements

    To apply, applicants must be:

    • A high school senior, recent graduate, or first-year college student
    • A graduate of an Upstate high school
    • In good academic standing with a minimum 3.5 GPA

    We are looking for students with heart, leadership, pride in their story, and a clear desire to make an impact.

    You do not have to be perfect.

    We want to see your voice, your values, and how you carry the legacy of Juneteenth forward.

    Essay Submission Required

    Submit a 500-word essay titled:

    “What Juneteenth Means to Me”

    Your essay should be thoughtful, personal, and written in your own voice. Share what Juneteenth means to you, how you connect with its legacy, and how you plan to carry that legacy forward.

  • Scholarship Awards

    Selected scholars will receive financial support through the Juneteenth GVL Scholarship Fund.

    • Mr. Juneteenth: minimum scholarship award of $2,000
    • Miss Juneteenth: minimum scholarship award of $2,000
    • Additional selected scholars: minimum scholarship award of $500

  • Scholar Recognition & Scholars Brunch

    Selected scholars will be recognized as part of our Juneteenth GVL Scholars community and honored during:

    This is an intimate, elevated, and celebratory experience where our scholars are the focus. You will be recognized, celebrated, and poured into in front of community leaders, partners, donors, and supporters.

  • Important Expectations

    Please read carefully.

    If selected, scholars are expected to:

    • Attend the Juneteenth GVL Scholars Brunch
    • Participate in any required communication or preparation leading up to the event
    • Represent Juneteenth GVL with respect, confidence, and pride

    Mr. & Miss Juneteenth will be crowned live during the brunch. Attendance is required to receive recognition and scholarship awards.
