Patnaik, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, moderated by Victor Thomas, former Chair/current Advisory Council Member of the Banff Forum, and President & CEO of the Canada India Business Council.
Together, they will explore the evolving Canada–India relationship, offering insights into diplomacy, trade, and shared global priorities. The conversation will be followed by an interactive Q&A, along with ample time to connect with fellow Banffers over exceptional Indian cuisine and refreshments.

SPEAKER BIO
H.E. Dinesh K. Patnaik is a distinguished career diplomat of the Indian Foreign Service with over 35 years of experience across a wide range of international assignments. He has served in Indian missions in Geneva, Dhaka, Beijing, and Vienna, and has held key roles at headquarters in the Europe West, External Publicity, Africa, and United Nations Divisions. His senior leadership postings include Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Vienna, Ambassador of India to Cambodia and to the Kingdom of Morocco, and Deputy High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Patnaik has also held prominent leadership roles within India’s Ministry of External Affairs, including as Additional Secretary for the Indian Ocean Region and later for Consular, Passport, Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs (CPV&OIA). He went on to serve as Director-General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), strengthening India’s global cultural diplomacy. Most recently, he served as Ambassador of India to Spain and Andorra from January 2022 to September 2025, before assuming his current role as High Commissioner of India to Canada.
He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata, as well as a Master’s degree in Advanced International Studies from the University of Vienna and a Certificate in International Studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. Ambassador Patnaik is married to Poonam, an international educator, and they have two daughters.
