  • What is the Wisconsin Arts Board?

The Wisconsin Arts Board (WAB) is the state agency responsible for the support and development of the arts throughout Wisconsin. Since 1973, the WAB has supported artists and arts organizations with funds from the State of Wisconsin (general purpose revenue appropriated by the legislature) and the National Endowment for the Arts.

What is the Wisconsin Arts Board’s Accessibility Committee?

The Accessibility Committee is a standing committee of the board of the WAB. It is comprised of WAB board members and members from the public who are appointed by the Chairperson of the WAB for a two-year term. Committee members are appointed based on recommendations from staff, other committee/board members, and on the interest that they articulate by submitting their Committee Member Interest Forms.

The Committee advises the WAB board and staff on accessibility-related issues. Issues addressed in the recent past have included website accessibility as well as grant program form questions related to accessibility. The Committee meets quarterly via Zoom. All Committee meetings are open to the public.

    Accessibility Committee Member Profile

Prospective Accessibility Committee members are at least 18 years of age and have experience working with or educating/advocating about the arts and disability community.

    Accessibility Committee Members Reflect Wisconsin

The WAB seeks Accessibility Committee members with some degree of familiarity with arts and accessibility issues in Wisconsin’s communities, and the ability to work well in a group. In addition, the WAB looks for Committee members who are willing to commit time and energy to advising the board and who will exhibit sensitivity in making constructive critical comments on the WAB’s accessibility-related activities and needs. To help reflect the diversity of the state on the Committee, the Wisconsin Arts Board also considers diversity in gender and sexual orientation, geography, race and culture, and artistic discipline when selecting Committee members. Ideally the Committee includes a balance of perspectives within the arts ecosystem, such as practitioners, administrators, and educators.
