Advent: A Visual Art Exhibition at Axiom Church | November 14 – December 31, 2026
The Create Commission invites artists to submit work for Advent, a group exhibition exploring the season of waiting, longing, expectation, and hope.
Advent asks us to live in the space between what is and what is yet to come.
It is a season marked by anticipation. We remember a world waiting for the arrival of Christ while also acknowledging the places within ourselves and our communities where we continue to wait for light, healing, reconciliation, justice, renewal, and the fulfillment of God's promises.
Artists are invited to consider Advent broadly and creatively.
- What does it mean to wait?
- Where do we find hope in darkness?
- What does longing reveal about us?
- How do we prepare ourselves for something we cannot yet see?
- Where are we watching for light to break through?
How might beauty help us remain present in the tension between promise and fulfillment?
Submitted work does not need to illustrate the traditional imagery of Advent or Christmas. We welcome work that wrestles honestly with themes of waiting, hope, expectation, darkness, light, incarnation, preparation, longing, and arrival.
This exhibition will be displayed at Axiom Church in Peoria, AZ from November 14 through December 31, 2026
Submission Guidelines:
This call is open to two-dimensional works only — painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and mixed media are all welcome. Sculpture and three-dimensional works will not be considered at this time. All work must be install-ready with wire backing. Submitted work should align with the theme and be suitable for a church gallery setting.
