Mutual Grit Open Call
  • Entry Form for Mutual Grit - 2026 Social Ecology Exhibition

  • Mutual Grit is an exhibition and collaborative project, hosted by ATHICA's interns, with the aim to question our treatment, understanding of, and intentions for Georgia's native wildlife and ecosystems. The exhibition is scheduled from May 22-June 30, 2026, and will showcase the work of Georgia artists that have connected with themes of environmentalism and social ecology. The exhibit is self-curated and will be installed by ATHICA interns and volunteers. As an all-volunteer non-profit contemporry art space, ATHICA serves as a community-hub for artists seeking conversation, collaboration, and a venue for sharing and experiencing contemporary art.

Social Ecology aims to connect environmental concerns to societal structures and to investigate how social hierarchies impact the overall health of landscapes and their inhabitants. With a specific focus on Georgia social ecology, Mutual Grit hopes to shed light on local environmental issues of pollution, habitat dextrication, deforestation, and more. By starting conversations on these issues, and interrogating the systems that perpetuate them, we can begin to advocate change and solution.

Georgia artists are invited to submit works for consideration by May 16, 2026. All submissions are via this online form, and will be reviewed by ATHICA interns.

Artists must be able to deliver their works to ATHICA by May 20, from 6-8pm or May 21, from 2-4pm, unless other arrangements are made.

Original artworks in any visual media may be entered. Artist are invited to share up to 3 works for consideration, in addition to an artist statement that notes how their practice engages with Georgia social ecology.

All 2-D works must be delivered ready to hang with wire. Artists with 3-D, video, and performance work should state their presentation needs in order to coordinate options and available space.

Artists must pick-up their works on July 1, 2026 or July 2, 2026, unless other arrangements are made.

An opening reception will take place on May 22, from 6-8pm. Programming to take place during the exhibition will include a live music benefit show, workshops addressing reuse and alternative materials, and community discussions. Additional programming may be contingent on desires of selected artists. Dates are TBD.
