  • You have been selected to apply for the West Hartford Prevention Partnership Youth Wellness Commission. This commission will be comprised of students from West Hartford who have demonstrated outstanding leadership potential through the West Hartford Youth Leadership Academy, Elevate WeHa or by creating a P.H.A.C.T.T. campaign. We are excited to work with a diverse group of students who care about making a difference in their schools and in our community. This commission will play a vital role in shaping wellness initiatives, representing youth perspectives, and building a healthier West Hartford. Please note that participation in this commission for 2026-2027 is by invite only and we are limited to the number of students who will participate in this capacity.   • Mission Statement

  • The mission of the West Hartford Prevention Partnership Youth Ambassadors is to empower student leaders to actively shape and support initiatives that promote mental health, substance misuse prevention and overall wellness in our community. Through collaboration, advocacy, and peer leadership, we strive to elevate youth voices and foster a healthier, more informed generation.
  • Purpose

  • The Youth Wellness Commission is established to:
    • Provide youth representation in the West Hartford Prevention Partnership and Prevention Council as well as representation in community partnership efforts
    • Advise on youth-focused wellness initiatives, events, and campaigns
    • Contribute to the design and development of the West Hartford Youth Leadership Academy
    • Identify and prioritize issues affecting West Hartford youth and propose actionable solutions
    • Serve as ambassadors at local events, speaking engagements, and peer-led presentations
    • Promote prevention and wellness messages within their schools and peer networks
  • Membership

    • Up to 25 students from area high schools
    • Participants must have demonstrated leadership through the West Hartford Youth Leadership Academy, Elevate WeHa, creation of a P.H.A.C.T.T. campaign, or participation in a school activity or event
    • Members will serve for one school year with the option to reapply
    • Current members may nominate a student for this, please be sure to list referring student
  • Meetings

    • Monthly meetings, with additional sessions as needed for event planning and special projects
    • A calendar will be provided on our first meeting. All information will be accessed on our webpage: https://www.westhartfordct.gov/town-departments/social-services/prevention

  • Leadership Opportunities

    • Members will have access to leadership training, public speaking opportunities, and community engagement
    • Students may take on specific roles (e.g., Chair, Secretary, Communications Lead) as determined by the group
    • Students may request community service hours
    • Students will have the opportunity to represent their school and community
  • Commitment

    • Active participation in monthly meetings as well as community events
    • Willingness Willingness to collaborate, communicate respectfully, and represent the group and town with integrity
  • Eligibility

    • Current West Hartford high school student (incoming grade 9 through rising grade 11) attending school in West Hartford
    • Current or past participants in P.H.A.C.T.T., Elevate WeHa, or the Youth Leadership Academy may apply
    • Demonstrates a commitment to prevention, wellness, and positive peer leadership
  • Expectations

    • Attend monthly meetings (in-person and/or virtual) and additional events as needed
    • Actively participate in planning and implementation of wellness initiatives
    • Represent the Commission at school, council or community events as needed and dependent upon area of interest and availability
    • Collaborate respectfully and responsibly with fellow student leaders and program staff
