    1. Leave it better than you found it
    2. Do it right. Do it Well. Do it quickly
    3. Execution and consistency – approach all opportunities with this in mind
    4. Gentlemen’s Respect - Chivalry
    5. People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Treat everyone as if they are the most important person in the world
    6. Always be the first to start cleaning up and helping to carry, transfer, set-up, breakdown, clean or put stuff away without and before being asked to do so. Always be the last to stop cleaning
    7. Be considerate when preparing your plate to eat. Allow others, as appropriate, to go first
    8. Represent and Redefine
    9. There is no substitute for talent. The more you perfect your skills, the greater opportunity you will have. Excellence breeds opportunity
    10. Differentiate yourself
    11. Let your actions speak louder than your words
    12. Don’t talk about the change, be the change. Be judged by the content of your character
    13. Suit up. Show up. Shut up. Allow your actions and character to speak for you
    14. Respect the host and express your gratitude. Gratitude is the most valuable form of currency
    15. If there is time to rest, there is time to be productive. Do what you are supposed to do when no one is looking
    16. Circle, circle, circle – uplift and support everyone
  • PARTICIPANT EXPECTATIONS AND GUIDELINES

  • Congratulations on being a part of the Brotherhood Crusade family and helping us make a difference in the lives of young people. For 58 years, Brotherhood Crusade has served as a voice of advocacy and, through its programs and services, has been improving quality of life for individuals and families as it relates to education, economic development, health and nutrition, and institution building. You are now a part of that legacy.

As a family member, there are certain behaviors/characteristics Brotherhood Crusade will expect from you. Some of these expectations are listed below. Please review and acknowledge that you understand them.

    1. Initiative: Each participant is expected to complete their own job and if they haven't been told what to do, look around to see what needs to be done and do it.
    2. Willingness to Learn: Each participant is expected to learn the way things are done in the organization.
    3. Willingness to Follow Directions: Each participant is expected to follow directions.
    4. Honesty. Each participant is expected to be honest and to tell the truth. Forms of dishonesty are: showing up late, leaving early and stealing property. Stealing time is the most costly form of dishonesty. You "steal" time when you come late or leave early.
    5. Dependability. Each participant is expected to show up to every scheduled event and every weekly session. If you will be absent or late, call your mentor well in advance. If you have an appointment with your doctor, dentist, etc. let your mentor know well in advance. Try to make appointments before or after scheduled meeting dates so you won't lose time.
    6. Enthusiasm. The most successful participants are those who are enthusiastic about their opportunity.
    7. Acceptance of Criticism. Loving criticism is the way a mentor guides you. You are expected to improve because of it. Listen and learn from constructive loving criticisms. Try to see how it can help you become a better participant. Even if you feel the criticism is unfair, try not to lose your temper.
    8. Punctuality. Each participant is expected to arrive at scheduled events on time and not leave early.
    9. Dress Appropriately. Each participant is expected to dress appropriately.
    10. Ask for further instructions. If the task is unclear, each participant is expected to request clarification, especially when they are unsure how to complete an assignment.
    11. Be flexible. Each participant is expected to accept opportunities that may not fall under their expected tasks, because of time and/or mentor constraints. It is important to be adaptable, flexible, and open to wearing many hats. Our country is facing issues that it has never had to deal with before. We need to be flexible in figuring out how to navigate this new territory.
    12. Observe and respect chain of command. Each participant is expected to learn what position each of their colleagues holds and how their position relates to the participant’s.
    13. Accountability. Each participant is accountable to our community, constituency, organization, partners, sponsors and to one another.
    14. Commitment. Each participant shall do what they say they are going to do by the time they say it will be done. This includes completing tasks associated with appropriate directions or requests made by a mentor.
    15. Communication. Each participant shall be open and direct - mean what you say and say what you mean. Brotherhood Crusade strives to provide a safe place environment where opinions that are expressed in an appropriate manner are valued, listened to, and considered.
    16. Clients. Service to others and relationship building are key to being an effective participant. Our clients are the community. They should always feel respected and important. Treat them as you would like to be treated.
    17. Figure It Out. Be curious, ask questions, and when faced with something new, dig in and figure it out. There is always something productive that needs to be done. If you can’t think of anything, ask.
    18. Hands-on. All participants, regardless of their tenure, get their hands dirty and do the work.
    19. Teamwork. Participants should work collaboratively to solve problems, make decisions, take action and value team/organization results over individual gain.
    20. Hygiene. Participants shall also be well groomed with respect to their hair, oral hygiene, and cleanliness.
