  • The Biennale of Sydney is on the look-out for volunteer female and gender-non-confirming participants for a performance assembly. More than just an audience, the participants of Argentine artist Gabriela Golder's Estado De Asamblea (State of Assembly), taking place 1-4pm 7 June 2026 at Marrickville Town Hall, are invited to witness, contribute, and engage with a lively political debate grounded in feminist perspectives touching on some of the most significant global issues of our times.

Golder’s project is part performance, part civic ritual; bringing together an assembly of women and gender-non-conforming people to critique systems of oppression, primarily as they relate to women and gender diverse folks’ political sovereignty and autonomy, and collectively vision a better future.

The assembly requires democratic participation including audience members taking the floor and responding to items in the discussion, as well as voting on the resolutions put forward by the collective. Whilst everyone is welcome to attend the artist respectfully requests contributions to discussion and votes on resolutions to be reserved for women and gender-non-conforming folks.

Topics of discussion include but are not limited to:

    • Territory, Colonialism, and Sovereignty
    • Patriarchal Violence and Control of Bodies
    • Labour Rights, Precarity and Cost of Living

Volunteer participants are simply required to attend on the day (1pm, 7 June 2026) ready and willing to engage with the Assembly. No prior preparation is required.

Gabriela Golder and the Biennale of Sydney would love to hear from you. Please register your interest below for updates and to help shape the topics the assembly will discuss.

  • Format: (000) 000-0000.
  • Estado De Asamblea (State of Assembly) will be a structured assembly comprised of a series of discussions of key topics. Each topic will be allocated a set time and introduced by a key speaker before contributions are opened to the assembly floor.

The assembly will be guided by a professional moderator and contributions recorded by an official notary. Between discussions the topics will be punctuated by performances of feminist protest music sung by the Sydney Philharmonia Choir.

In the spirit of collective action the assembly will also put forward motions to be voted on by the collective.

  • Women & Gender-Non-Conforming Performance Context

Estado De Asamblea (State of Assembly) is a feminist performance project responding to the social conditions created by patriarchal society. The Assembly acknowledges the importance and necessity of men as comrades in the struggle for justice and welcomes men as audiences to the Assembly, however in light of the feminist focus of the event, the Artist requests that contributions to discussion and votes on resolutions be made exclusively by women and gender-non-conforming folks in the audience.
