• BATS Theatre 'Winter and Spring 2026' In-Person Pitch Form

BATS Theatre 'Winter and Spring 2026' In-Person Pitch Form

    DEADLINE - 5pm, 27 May, 2026
  • Tēnā koutou,

Welcome to the BATS pitching process. We’re doing things a little differently this season by offering in-person pitching sessions. You’re invited to book a dedicated slot between 2pm and 6pm, allowing space for a more direct, kānohi ki te kānohi (face to face) exchange that sits at the heart of BATS. These sessions will be held with our a panel of experienced industry practitioners, offering a range of perspectives as part of the kōrero.

We hope this approach supports a more meaningful connection and conversation. As always, we acknowledge that no single format will suit everyone, and we welcome any feedback you may have. If you would like to explore alternative options or have any questions before booking your session, please get in touch with our Programming Coordinator, Sarai, at programming@bats.co.nz.

This BATS Winter and Spring Season covers Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, and Dec 2026.

Dates that are unavailable due to Festivals are: Sep 6 - Oct 11, Oct 27 - Nov 14, and Nov 22 - Dec 6

The deadline for submissions for this season of Pitches is 5pm May 27th, 2026.

BATS welcomes work from first time theatre-makers, through to established artists that are returning to BATS to experiment and develop new work. We are accepting submissions for any and all types of live art to present in any of our theatre spaces. Our priority is 5 night seasons or longer, we will consider smaller seasons under special circumstances.

Please see our BATS Artist Handbook for important information around our processes and timelines. If you have questions this handbook or this webpage of resources is likely to answer them.

Got an idea for something different? Exhibition in our Pit Gallery Space? Wānanga? Activation? You can also use this form, just fill out as much detail as possible/relevant.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • Your In-person Session

  • What to expect from your in-person pitch session

Your session is a chance to share your work in a live, conversational setting. You’re welcome to bring your team or have one person speak on behalf of the project, whatever best represents your work. There’s no expectation of a formal presentation; this is about giving us insight into you, your rōpū, and your mahi.

Here’s what we’re interested in hearing:

    Tell us about your team
Share your company name, who is involved, and the roles within the project. We’re interested in the skills, experience, and perspectives your collaborators bring, and a sense of where people sit in their practice, whether emerging, established, or somewhere in between.

    Tell us about your show
Describe the work you’re proposing and its current stage of development. What is the core idea or driving force behind it? Why is now the right time for this project? We’re also keen to understand how your work aligns with BATS’ values, kaupapa, and strategic direction.

    Staging and Technical
Give us an overview of any ideas you have around set, design, and technical elements. This doesn’t need to be fully resolved, just enough to understand the scope and ambition of the work.

You’re welcome to share anything else that helps bring your project to life, this could include excerpts, references, or simply speaking to what excites you about the work.

Above all, be yourselves. This is an opportunity for us to get to know the people behind the project, so keep it relaxed, be creative, and don’t put too much pressure on yourselves.
