• Legal Update with Jan E. Tomsky and ADR August 25th, 2026 8:30am-3pm

    Join us as we welcome back Jan E. Tomsky from Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost LLP. and our friends from ADR! Jan will provide legal updates and discuss hot topics within special education, then finish with a Q&A session, answering all of your burning questions during the the morning session. We are offering 3 hours of CEU credits to count toward your legal and ethical requirements for both NCSP and LEPs. Stay for an afternoon presentation from ADR representatives who will answer your burning questions about the process when a parent or district requests assistance from ADR. Paying for this event gives you SCASP Membership for the year! Lunch will be provided.

    Where: Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) 5340 Skylane Blvd, Santa Rosa CA 95403. This is an in person event only and will not be recorded. 

    Who: Jan E. Tomsky is a nationally recognized leader in special education law. She has represented school district clients in mediations and due process hearings, as well as in special education-related litigation in both state and federal courts and in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. A popular speaker, Jan is asked to present throughout the country on education and the law. SCASP is fortunate to welcome her back to Sonoma County for the morning portion of this training.

    Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) involves providing alternative means of solving problems that arise between families and schools. The ADR program involves everything from training educators in effective communication and negotiation skills to referring parents and LEAs to an Independent Child Advocate. The intent of this program is to maintain positive relationships between the student's family and the school as well as to save time and money for both parties. We are excited to welcome representatives from the ADR program during the afternoon session!

  • The morning course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education credit for LEPs, LMFTs, LPCCs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. This course also qualifies for 3 hours of continuing professional development for Nationally Certified School Psychologists, under provider number 1025.
