We are excited that you are considering auditioning for the 2026–2027 BDA Company! Company is an exciting opportunity for dancers to grow in technique, performance, teamwork, responsibility, and confidence while building lasting friendships and memories.

BDA Company is designed for dancers who love to perform and are ready for a higher level of commitment, training, and teamwork. Dancers participate in competitions, convention classes, community performances, team bonding activities, rehearsals, and fundraising opportunities throughout the season. In addition to competitions, this season will include an increased focus on community performances such as parades and local events.

Being part of Company requires dedication from both dancers and families. Teamwork, consistency, repetition, and precision are important parts of the experience and help dancers reach both individual and team goals.

The following information outlines the audition and selection process, as well as the expectations and commitments for Company dancers and their families.

  • Audition Understandings

  • Auditions are an important part of growing as a dancer and performer. They provide an opportunity to challenge yourself, build confidence, and learn how to handle both success and disappointment with professionalism and grace. Please review the following expectations carefully before auditioning:

    • Come Prepared
Review all audition materials in advance and arrive with completed forms, proper attire, shoes, and any requested items.
    • Practice Strong Audition Etiquette
Treat auditions like an interview. Be respectful, focused, and give your best effort throughout the entire process. Support fellow dancers, avoid distractions, and remember that parents should not observe auditions, as it can be distracting for dancers and staff.
    • Understand the Selection Process
Not all dancers who audition will be selected. Team placement is based on many factors including technique, experience, attitude, behavior, teamwork, performance quality, and overall team dynamics. We encourage dancers to focus on personal growth and improvement rather than comparison to others.
    • Accept Results with Grace
Auditions are valuable learning experiences regardless of the outcome. We encourage dancers and families to approach the process with positivity, professionalism, and an open mind. The ability to handle feedback and disappointment respectfully is an important life skill both inside and outside the dance world.

Please take time to discuss the audition process and company commitment as a family to determine if it is the right fit for your dancer. All placement decisions are made collaboratively by BDA staff and are final.

  • Competition Team Audition Evaluation and Selection Process

  • All auditioning dancers will participate in work across the floor to demonstrate their technique skills. They will also learn a combination to perform during the audition to evaluate their ability to learn choreography and demonstrate their performance skills.

Dancers will be assessed on both technique and performance skills. Staff will rate each dancer’s skills on a scale of consistent, occasional, or needs improvement.

    Group Numbers

Once teams are selected, dancers will be placed in group numbers based on the strengths, technique, and needs of each specific team. Not every dancer will participate in every group routine, and alternates/understudies may be assigned for select pieces.

Placement in group numbers is also based on the dancer’s enrolled weekly technique classes.

    Duos & Trios

Dancers must be placed on a Company team and participate in group routines in order to be eligible for a solo, duet, or trio.

These opportunities are offered by invitation only from individual choreographers. Dancers should not request a piece directly from an instructor. However, dancers may indicate instructor preferences on their audition form, and requests will be considered when possible. Final decisions are based on instructor availability, rehearsal space, genre balance, and overall choreography workload.

Dancers selected for a solo, duet, or trio should expect:

    • 4–6 rehearsals to learn choreography
    • Two 45-minute rehearsals per month
    • To practice independently and prepare outside of rehearsals
    • Active application of feedback from choreographers and competition judges
