JOINT UTD/M-DCPS TASK FORCES: The President selects interested UTD members annually to serve on UTD/M-DCPS Task Forces. They are limited in the number of participants by our contract and the President seeks new as well as experienced members to serve. Task forces meet throughout the year as determined by the task force members. You will only be selected for one (1) task force, however you can serve on multiple committees.
Assessments - reviews all assessments given in the district, assists in the development of the Testing Calendar and makes recommendations for the elimination or addition of required assessments.
Calendar - develops the annual School Calendars for K-12, Adult Education, and Juvenile Justice.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) - works collaboratively to develop and implement strategies to enhance CTE programs, expand career pathways, and ensure student success.
Early Childhood - determines appropriate programming and reviews legislative/School Board changes to Early Childhood initiatives.
EESAC - recommends modifications to EESAC Best Practices, reviews and approves school waivers, and assists schools with EESAC concerns and trainings.
Office Employee of the Year (OEOY) - develops the procedures for nomination of office employees, selects the district winner, and assists in resolving disputes when requested.
Paperwork Reduction - monitors that all paperwork being required at worksites is appropriate, eliminates redundant paperwork, and sunsets unnecessary paperwork.
Paraprofessional of the Year (POV) -develops the procedures for nominations of paraprofessionals and school related personnel, selects the district winner, and assists in resolving disputes when requested.
Professionalization of Teaching Task Force (POTTF) - reviews the progress of current professionalization decisions and plans strategies for implementation of subsequent phases of the professionalization initiative, reviews reports and recommendations, and recommends new and/or modified programs.
Rookie Teacher of the Year (RTOY) - develops the procedures for nominations of beginning teachers at each school, selects the district winner, and assists in resolving disputes when requested.
School Safety - discusses and makes recommendations for improved safety in our schools, including but not limited to student discipline, suspensions, and bullying.
Special Education (SPED) - discusses SPED issues, resolves concerns brought to them, and makes recommendations to improve the program and services for special education students.
Teacher Evaluations - monitors the procedures and implementations of teacher evaluations, and makes recommendations for modification and improvement.
Title I - discusses issues related to Title I programs, funding, and compliance.
Teacher of the Year (TOY) - develops the procedures for nominations of region teachers of the year, interviews and observes finalists, selects the district winner, and assists in resolving disputes when requested; members of this task force must have been a previous winner or finalist for M-DCPS District Teacher of the Year.
INTERNAL UTD STANDING COMMITTEES: Open to all UTD members. Involvement in your union takes many forms. A committee is the perfect place to meet fellow union members who share your union interests! Committees meet throughout the year as determined by the committee members.
Constitution, Bylaws and Rules - meets to review and recommend changes to the UTD Constitution, Bylaws or Rules. This Standing Committee is approved by the UTD Executive Board.
Contract Action Team (CAT) - discusses collective bargaining issues and makes recommendations to the President.
Intercultural and Human Rights - meets to discuss and develop opportunities for multicultural activities and to raise awareness of human rights issues.
Legislative Relations - meets to review current legislation and its impact on educational policy, develops opportunities for members to speak to and advocate on issues related to education, meets with and interviews legislative and congressional candidates, and educates our constituents on issues.
Professional Issues - discusses educational policy, becomes more educated on issues, speaks to appropriate decision-makers about their impact and provides possible solutions.
School Related Personnel - discusses issues specifically related to paraprofessionals, clerical staff, security monitors and education support staff, and makes recommendations to the UTD President.
Florida's Young Remarkable Educators (FYRE)/Young Educators Committee (YEC) - meets to discuss issues and opportunities for engagement related to early career teachers.
