  • Complete this form to apply for assistance through the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) Mitigation Assistance Program (MAP), a program developed as part of the shared effort of reducing wildfire risk across homes, neighborhoods and the broader community. 


    The HIZ MAP is a component of the Red Feather Lakes Area Wildfire Defense Project, funded through the Community Wildfire Defense Grant and co-managed by the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed and Larimer County Office of Emergency Management.

  • Before You Begin

  • Mitigation assistance is available to privately-owned developed property within the RFL Area Wildfire Defense Project communities, as defined in their Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs): 

    • Cherokee Meadows
    • Crystal Lakes
    • Glacier View
    • Poudre Canyon

     

    Consult this map to determine whether your property falls within the boundaries of the geographic area covered in the applicable Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). If your property falls outside of the covered areas indicated on the map and you feel you should still qualify, send an appeal email to HIZMAP@larimer.gov and provide details regarding your case. 

     

    Eligible privately-owned developed property includes:

    • Primary owner-occupied residences.
    • Secondary or seasonal residences.
    • Renter-occupied residences.
    • Other privately owned developed parcels.

     

  • Additionally

    • A completed HIZ Assessment is required to apply, if you do not have one request one here.
    • Applying for the HIZ MAP does not guarantee assistance, funding or work on your property.
    • This program supports eligible defensible space and vegetation-management work. 
    • This program does not pay for home-hardening improvements such as roofing, vents, screens, gutters, or other building-related upgrades.
    • If your property is selected, a Program Specialist will work with you to develop and review the final scope of work for your property before any work begins.
    • If you need to update any information on a previous application, please email HIZMAP@larimer.gov detailing any changes that might need to be done.

    Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) Assessments are done through the Wildfire Partner Program, usually through a community abmassador.

     

    Note: You must obtain a new HIZ Assessment if the Assessment was performed under ownership of a previous owner.

  • Part 4. Right of Entry Permission

  • The undersigned property owner, authorized owner’s representative, or authorized lessee (“Owner”), by this Right of Entry and Work Authorization and Release (“Right of Entry”), hereby grants permission to Larimer County and the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed, and each of their agencies, contractors and subcontractors, and agents (collectively the “Permitted Entities”) to enter Owner’s property (“Property”) identified below.


    1. Grant of Permission: Owner grants the Permitted Entities the right to enter upon the Property to conduct wildfire mitigation activities, including but not limited to assessment to identify conditions, thinning vegetation, removing hazardous fuels, and other necessary wildfire risk reduction measures ("Work").


    2. Scope: Owner understands that this Right of Entry authorizes the Permitted Entities to perform the Work on the Property until the Work is completed. Owner further understands that the Permitted Entities are not obligated to take any action on the Property.


    3. Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver: Owner understands that any wildfire mitigation work performed under this Right of Entry does not guarantee the prevention or minimization of damage to property or safety of persons. Owner releases and waives all claims and losses that might arise during or after the Work by reason of any action or inaction of the Permitted Entities related to this
    Right of Entry, whether known or unknown. This Right of Entry does not waive any protections or benefits available to the Permitted Entities under the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act,
    C.R.S. §§ 24-10-101 et seq., as amended, or other available laws.

     

    4. Liability: In connection with the work to be performed under this Right of Entry, Owner agrees to be responsible for losses, costs, demands, or actions arising out of or related to its own negligent acts and omissions.


    5. Term: The term of this right of access shall begin upon signature and remain in effect until the Work is completed, unless earlier revoked by Owner in writing with such revocation being effective upon delivery to the Permitted Entities. If Owner revokes this Right of Entry after Work has started, Owner agrees to allow the Permitted Entities a reasonable time to gather equipment and personnel and vacate the Property.
