Available to: Miss Texas delegates
Scholarship Amount: $250
Application Deadline: June 1, 2026
Scholarship Qualifications & About:
In loving memory of Betty Congress; a devoted mother, community pillar and the heart of her family.
Betty Congress was many things to many people, but to those who knew her best, she was the woman who could bring everyone together with something as simple as a batch of her signature cookies. She embodied warmth, strength and resilience — and the women she raised and inspired carry that legacy forward every single day. Betty passed four years ago, but her spirit lives on in every kitchen, every family gathering, and every woman who finds her strength in the ones who came before her.
In her honor, this scholarship celebrates the art of cooking as a vessel for memory, community and resilience.
Application Requirements
Applicants are invited to submit a thoughtful video, no longer than five minutes in length, of themselves cooking or baking a recipe and sharing why it is meaningful to them. This recipe may represent a cherished family tradition, a special memory or a moment of overcoming adversity. There are no rules on what you make, only that it means something to you.
Once complete, applicants must post their video to social media using the hashtag #RecipesforResilience.
We hope you'll share your story because we believe there is a special strength found in the food that gathers us together.
This scholarship is dedicated to the women who carry on, and to Betty, who showed us how.
