  • On May 3rd we reflected on our History and the values that we have held to over the years.

    In 1935 we started the Black Creek Mennnonite Brethern Church to uphold our values such as:

    - The Word of God as a guide for Faith and Life.

    - Song and Worship as a way of expressing that faith and life.

    - Family 'style' community where all are encouraged to be a part.

     

    On May 10th we reveiwed and looked at things that Have Changed.

    Changes to how we DO things

    We looked at some of the ways we respond to Change.

    and the reasons for change...  and what does being 'missional' look like.

    Let's look at 4 of the changes that have happened over the years since 1935, when Black Creek Mennonite Church began.

  • 1950's Change language from German to English

    Accomodating English speaking people so that they could become a part of the church community.

  • 1990's Change music style from hymns to contemporary (10yr slow change)

    Being more inviting to the next generation by accomodating their music style

  • 1990's Change emphasis to speak openly of the Holy Spirit's gifts and work

    Inviting people to experience the transformation and power of God's Holy Spirit in order to bring more blessing, strength, healing and power to their Christian experience

  • 2010's Change the church name to Black Creek Community Church

    Help remove the confusion and uncertanty for new people who were unsure what dress/practices/ethnicity were required to be part of our Mennonite Brethren Church.

  • These are some other changes that have occured since our church started in 1935

    1940’s - Add a Bible School for three years

    1960’s - Change Sunday School into a community outreach program

    1960’s - Change leadership designation to fit charity requirements

    1970’s - Begin camp ministry - to reach children

    1980’s - Change communion time from Sunday evening to Sunday morning

    1990’s - Change focus to become a missionary sending church

    1990’s - Change pastor roles to include paid youth pastor and associate pastor

    2000’s - Change pastor roles to include paid assistant pastor

    2000’s - Change leadership structure from congregational led to elder led

    2010’s - Change to one annual congregational meeting from four meetings a year
