• Stuart's Opera House After-School Music Program (AMP) 2026-2027 School Year

Application for New & Returning Students
  • Thank you for applying for AMP 2026-2027! For more info about AMP, please visit our website. We recommend having a good sense of the program before applying so students and families know what to expect. Applications for the 2026-2027 school year are due by Sunday, July 19 at 11:59 pm.

Please read the following carefully: Starting in the 2026-27 school year, we are now offering both our regular Full-Year AMP program and a Semester AMP program that runs for 12-13 weeks each semester. Students can indicate their preference in the application. Here's info regarding both Full-Year and Semester AMP Programming:

    • Full-Year AMP runs throughout the entire school year:
      • Fall: weeks of September 6 - December 19
      • Spring: weeks of January 3 - May 15 (with a 1 week spring break)
      • June: Nelsonville Music Festival Rehearsal Week and Performances - Dates to be determined
    • Semester AMP runs for 12-13 weeks and occurs within either the Fall or Spring school semester period.
      • Fall Semester programming runs for 12 weeks through the weeks of September 6 - December 5
      • Spring Semester programming - 13 weeks of programming through the weeks of January 31 - May 8 (includes a 1 week spring break)
    • Who does Full-Year and who does Semester?
      • All returning year-round AMP students are automatically accepted into the year-round AMP track when they re-apply for the next school year. However, any existing year-round AMP student can request the semester program at the time of application if they prefer.
      • New students will typically begin in the semester AMP program. Exceptions to this will be evaluated on an individual basis, depending on a variety of factors – including the students age/grade, musical experience, and the number of available spots in each program track.
      • More information about the Semester AMP Program can be found on our webpage.
    • Performances:
      • Full Year Bands - Full Year AMP bands perform at the end-of-year AMP Showcase in our theater on Saturday, May 15. Additionally, they perform at the Nelsonville Music Festival.
      • Semester Bands - Fall Semester AMP bands will perform in our lobby as part of our Fall Youth Open Mic on the evening of Tuesday, December 1. Spring Semester AMP bands will perform in our lobby as part of our Spring Youth Open Mic Night on the evening of Tuesday, May 4.
      • Open Mic - Optional - We host a monthly Open Mic series on the first Tuesday of every month and reserve a 15 minute spot for our AMP students each month. Students are always welcome to play. They should let an AMP instructor know in advance if they plan to perform.
    • Program Frequency: Students in both tracks attend the AMP program one day a week. AMP runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students commit at the start of the year or semester to attend one of these days to rehearse with their band.
      • Full Year programming is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
      • Semester programming is tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays
    • Audio Programming: Students can complete this same application to be part of our Audio Production Programming. Audio Programming is tentively scheduled for Wednesdays. Students can choose to do regular AMP programming and Audio, but will have to attend AMP on a separate day than Audio programming.
    • Program Times: AMP and the Audio program run from 3:30pm-6pm. The first half hour (3:30 pm – 4:00 pm) serves as a flexible time for students to arrive, check-in, have a snack, and socialize. Instruction and programming runs from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Please contact Director of Arts Education, Adam Remnant, at adamr@stuartsoperahouse.org with any questions or concerns regarding the program. He can also be reached by phone at 614-395-6746. Thank you!

Do you have any interest in doing the semester program (12-13 weeks) instead of the full year program?*

  • Students and/or Caregivers: How did you hear about Stuart’s Opera House Afterschool Music Program?*
  • Caregiver Contact Information

The program uses email and text messaging to relay info to students and families on a regular basis. Most communication is done via email, but we will use text messaging on occasion to let caregivers know about weather cancellations/delays or other short-term notifications. By default, we will use the caregiver info to send regular communication via email and text message.
  • What is the preferred method of communication?*

  • Schedule Availability

  • Please note: If you are a new AMP student, it is likely that you will be placed in the semester AMP program. Exceptions to this will be evaluated on an individual basis. Keep in mind that semester AMP is tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays each week (though this may change based on the availability and number of applicants). More information about the Semester AMP Program can be found on our webpage.

  • What day(s) is the student available to attend AMP? Please check all the days you are available.*
  • Out of the available days, is/are there preferred day(s) to attend AMP? (Check all that apply)*
  • We have some important performance dates that students need to be present for. The dates include a end-of-year showcase at Stuart's on Saturday, May 15, 2027 and the Nelsonville Music Festival will take place in June 2027 (will let you know the exact dates once confirmed). Please let us know if you have any schedule conflicts with these dates.*
  • Band Preferences

We do our best to place each student in a band that fits their skill level, age range, and musical interest. We do our best to accommodate placing students together with friends they wish to be in a band with. That said, there are a lot of variables to make it all work. Please answer the following questions to help us find the best fit for each student.
  • For returning students, let us know if they have any preference on staying in their band from last year or starting with a new group. (Note: we can't guarantee that bands from last year will be able to continue with the same lineup but we try to keep continuity with bands if members wish to stay together.)*
  • Instrument Preferences

The instruments we offer are guitar, vocals, bass, drums, and keyboard. Students can attend the program playing an instrument we don't offer, but our instruction abilities may be limited and students may have to provide their own instrument. We do our best to accommodate student's first choice of instrument, but we may reach out to see if they are flexible to play a different instrument based on their band's needs.
  • Please indicate which instrument is their first choice and which is their second choice from the options below.

  • First Choice*
  • Please indicate the students level of experience with this instrument:*
  • Second Choice*
  • Please indicate the students level of experience with their SECOND choice selected above:*
  • Is the student left-handed and requiring a left-handed instrument?*
  • Audio Production

Audio students will engage in pre-production, recording, beat-making, mixing, and mastering student + guest recordings. Students can join just as an audio student or if they are a regular AMP student, they can attend as an audio student on a separate day of the week. Audio Programming is tentatively scheduled for Wednesdays.
  • Student Questionnaire

Please have the student answer the following questions. Provide thorough answers so we can get a good sense of the student's abilities, interests and personality. We aim to create bands that are a good fit for each student.
  • For Caregivers: Donations

  • We strive to make AMP affordable for families to eliminate financial barriers to arts education. However, we do suggest an annual donation of $100 per semester or $200 for Full-Year programming. No payment is required at this time.

If your student is accepted into the AMP program, we will email you a link to make a donation to support the program. This is not required, so please still submit your application even if it's not in your budget currently. We will also allow an option to donate a different amount than the suggested donation in order to meet your budgetary needs. Additionally, Full-Year students can choose to make payments in semester installments if that works better for you.

  • What happens once I've submitted my application?

  • We do our best to accommodate as many students as possible, however, there is the chance that we could receive more applicants than we have capacity to accept. Returning students always take priority but we have new spots open every year. We do our best to comb through every application to figure out bands and schedules that will work for everyone.

Applications for the 2026-27 school year are due by Sunday, July 19, 2026. We will follow up with applicants within 2 weeks of the deadline to inform you of your acceptance into the program. We might reach out to you about schedule or instrument flexibility between now and then.

If we are unable to accept a student this year, they will be put on a waiting list. We do occassionally have students drop out of the program and have spots open up.

Thank you for supporting Arts Education at Stuart's Opera House!
