July 19: Laura Lee, Dummies, Dummies, Big and Small!. All picture books start with a dummy– a rough version of a book where artists figure out the story. But what is a dummy? Where does the word come from? Why are they so important? In this interactive workshop, we'll dive into these questions as we explore a brief history of the picture book dummy, how it shapes storytelling mechanics– like page turns, pacing, and what to show (or not show)– and create a dummy of our own! All students will receive a signed copy of Laura's picture book, Soy Sauce!
