We are excited to announce the 6th annual SheJumps Wilderness First Aid Access Program.
A Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is an engaging, two-day, in-person training that teaches the essential skills and confidence needed to respond to medical emergencies in the outdoors. If you are selected as a participant through our lottery-based process, 100% of the tuition to attend this course will be covered by SheJumps. As part of the program, participants will also complete an online CPR course prior to the in-person training. Whether you're a hiker, camper, climber, paddler, mountain biker, or outdoor professional, WFA is designed for anyone who spends time outside and wants to be better prepared to care for themselves and others in remote environments.
SheJumps believes that all women and girls should feel belonging in the outdoors. The goal of the program is to bring free WFA training and certification to Women of Color and women who have historically experienced barriers accessing outdoor education. Women of all races and ethnicities can apply, and race and ethnicity will not be considered in the selection process.
We are looking for motivated women who are interested in educating and pushing themselves in the outdoors, and who could be role models for encouraging and inspiring other girls and women of all levels and abilities.
- Applicants must be aged 18+.
- The Wilderness First Aid Access Program is lottery-based, and participants are chosen through an anonymous randomized selection process. We are unable to review any specific considerations per applicant, and race and ethnicity will not be considered in the selection process.
- Please submit only one application - duplicate submissions will be deleted.
- The WFA Access Program covers tuition for both the Wilderness First Aid course and the required online CPR course, which must be completed prior to the in-person training. Participants are responsible for their own travel and food expenses.
- The course is located in New York's Hudson Valley at the Stephen & Betsy Corman AMC Harriman Outdoor Center, 200 Breakneck Rd, Haverstraw, NY 10927 (30 mi from NYC).
- The course is two full days in length, and participants must be able to attend BOTH days of the course, 9 AM-5 PM.
- Those who are selected for the program will receive an email on August 13, 2026 with a registration link where they must register and pay a $50 fully refundable deposit in order to secure their spot. If they do not register and pay their refundable deposit by August 20, 2026, we will offer the spot to a runner-up, and the spot will no longer be available to them.
Cancellation & Deposit Policy:
While the WFA course itself will be free, we are asking each selected participant to submit a fully refundable $50 deposit for the course. We are utilizing this cancellation/deposit policy to try to reduce last minute cancellations and no-shows. Your deposit will save your spot on the course and also show us that you are committed to showing up for the course. Your deposit must be submitted during your course acceptance window and will be refunded after your WFA course.
- If a participant is unable to attend the course, they must provide SheJumps with at least 14 days notice so that the spot can be given to a runner-up.
- If a participant cancels 14 or more days before their course, their $50 deposit will be refunded.
- If a participant cancels less than 14 days before their course or does not show up to their course, their $50 deposit will not be refunded.
- All participants who attend both days of their course will receive a refund of their $50 deposit within one week of course attendance.

Who Can Apply:
- This program has a goal of increasing access for Women of Color and women who have experienced barriers to accessing outdoor education. Women of all races and ethnicities aged 18 and over can apply.
- Transgender, cisgender, and non-binary people are encouraged to apply.
- Participants must be comfortable touching (professional touch) fellow students during patient assessments. If participants cannot complete the patient assessments, they will not be able to earn a certification card.

Where did the WFA Access Program funds come from?
Funds have been provided by the Appalachian Mountain Club Outdoor Journey Fund and donated by a group of passionate SheJumps supporters who wish to provide equitable opportunities for community, connection, and education to women who have historically experienced barriers acessing the outdoors.
