Hazardous Chemical Register
  • Hazardous Chemical Register

  • Purpose and use

This supplementary register is completed only where hazardous chemicals are identified during the Made to Help Home Safety Risk Assessment or during later review of the home/worksite.

A hazardous chemical register lists hazardous chemicals stored, handled or used at the workplace. In a participant home, the home becomes a workplace when Made to Help workers provide supports there.

The register, relevant Safety Data Sheets (SDS), control actions and worker instructions must be readily accessible to workers who may be exposed to or required to work near the hazardous chemical.

If a client has prepared a hazardous chemical register, or if Made to Help prepares one for the client home/worksite, Made to Help requires a copy of the register to be kept with the participant/worksite records.

  • When this form is required

Complete this register when a hazardous chemical is identified during the Home Risk Assessment, service commencement visit, annual review, incident review, or when the home environment or service provision changes.

This register is not required for consumer products that are used in a way consistent with normal household use. If unsure, seek guidance and complete the register until the risk is clarified.

Examples may include oxygen cylinders, industrial-strength products, chemicals with hazard pictograms, chemicals requiring PPE or special storage, or substances requiring a Safety Data Sheet.

    • Compliance and practice note

This template is designed to support Made to Help risk management, worker safety, continuity of supports, and safe provision of supports in a home/worksite. It should be used with Made to Help policies, the Home Risk Assessment, participant support plan, incident management procedures and applicable WHS obligations.

Where a hazardous substance or chemical creates immediate danger to a participant, worker or any other person, workers should follow Made to Help escalation and emergency procedures and not proceed until it is safe to do so.
