• Optometry Prerequisite Unofficial Evaluation

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology | Year Long Series
    Labs required

    • This may be satisfied with either a combined series of A&P with labs or separate terms of Anatomy with lab and Physiology with lab.
    • Must be taken within the last 10 years of application.
    • Will accept Washington community colleges two quarter series.
    • Will accept either Human or Vertebrate Anatomy.
    • Will accept either Human or Animal Physiology.
  • Microbiology | One Course
    Lab required

    • Introductory Microbiology and Medical Microbiology will be accepted.
    • Will not accept Cell Biology or Molecular Biology as substitutes.
  • General Chemistry | Year Long Series
    Labs required

    • May not be survey level courses such as Introduction to Chemistry or Preparatory Chemistry.
  • Organic Chemistry | Year Long Series
    Labs required

    • Must be taken within the last 10 years of application.
    • Can be fulfilled through a full organic chemistry series or through a combination of organic chemistry and biochemistry. 
    • Biochemistry can be accepted without a lab if a lab is not offered.
  • Physics | Year Long Series
    Labs required

    • Must be taken within the last 10 years of application.
    • May not be survey level courses.
    • Both algebra-based and calculus-based courses are acceptable.
  • Calculus | One Course

    • May not be substituted with pre-calculus or algebra/linear algebra.
    • AP credit can be accepted if you scored a 4+ on the AP exam.
  • Statistics | One Course

    • Biostatistics or statistics through the math, psychology, sociology, kinesiology, or education departments are acceptable. 
    • Business stats is accepted on a case-by-case basis only after reviewing the syllabus. 
    • AP credit can be accepted if you scored a 4+ on the AP exam.
  • Psychology | One Course

    • General or developmental psychology can be accepted.
    • May not be substituted with sociology. 
    • AP credit can be accepted if you scored a 4+ on the AP exam.
  • English | One Course

    • Must be writing composition.
    • Writing intensive courses from other departments can be accepted on a case-by-case basis after reviewing the syllabus.
    • Speech and Communication will not meet this requirement.
  • Pacific University offers a Bachelor's Completion Option if a student will not have their degree by the time they would start the program. There are additional prerequisites required and 90 semester credits of transferrable coursework from a regionally accredited institution are also needed. Please make your selection below and we'll display the additional prerequisites if necessary. 

  • Please make sure to submit an unofficial copy of your transcript evaluation (WES, ECE, etc) so that we may review your international coursework for prerequisites. 

  • Humanities | 8 semester credits

    • Must include courses from two different of the following displines: art, art history, communications/media, education*, English, ethics, history*, humanities, languages, music, philosophy, religion, speech, and
      theater.
    • *Education and History coursework will be evaluated by the College of Optometry as Humanities or Social Science credit based on the specific course and syllabus.
  • Social Sciences | 8 semester credits

    • Must include courses from two different of the following displines: Anthropology, business, criminal justice, cultural studies, economics, education*, environmental studies, gender studies, geography, history*, linguistics, political science, psychology, public health, social work and sociology.
    • *Education and History coursework will be evaluated by the College of Optometry as Humanities or Social Science credit based on the specific course and syllabus.
