• Honouring Queer Joy Full Information

A community event for Pride Month. What does Wellness mean to you?
  • 🌈What and Who:

Honouring Queer Joy is a day of wellness offerings and community care to uplift, celebrate and nourish each other. This event will center BIPOC voices and lived experiences. It is hosted and organized by Branching Two Spirits and Wildfires Bookshop.

✨We are a mutual aid group. This event is NOT associated with ANY Pride societies in any way✨

    Branching Two Spirits:

"Branching Two Spirits is a mutual aid collective, focused on community care and community building. We are made up of four 2-spirit Indigenous gender diverse humans: Danielle Taralson (Lake Babine Nation and mixed settler), Desireah Eustache (Simpcw First Nation and mixed settler), Neh'tanis Taylor (Métis, Cree, and Sioux), and Tea Rosa (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Sto:lo, Hawaiian, and mixed settler). They are facilitators, educators and life-long learners. They aim to support over-represented and under-served Indigenous youth across so-called British Columbia. At this time they are offering workshops that focus on harm reduction, sexual health, and healthy relationships."

    Wildfires Bookshop:

"Wildfires Bookshop resists the singular visions and binaries that the status quo enforces, and creates fertile ground for us to learn and collectivize. Wildfires empowers us to be part of constructing a world filled with care and possibility.

We curate books that celebrate both historically and presently excluded voices and stories."

Branching Two Spirits and Wildfires Bookshop are aligned on removing ourselves from colonial narrative, so we want to host an event that Celebrates pride month through a Mutual Aid lens. We can not promise safety, but are commited to making this an accountable space.

The event will consist of different Wellness Offerings:

Services: Ex. Gender affirming Haircuts and Styling, DJ session, (hopefully) small appetizer style food offerings

Community Offerings: Ex. Free Harm Reduction Supplies (condoms, naloxone kits, community resources), free wellness items (Devils Club keychains, Devils Club Massage bars), free Plant Medicine, free beading kits

Community Knowledge Sharing: Ex. Naloxone Training, Sexual Wellbeing Bingo, Traditional Medicine workshop, Kitchen Table Organizing Workshop

A note: These are the offerings we ourselves have commited to offering that we are using as an example of things we are looking for.

🌈What we are looking for: Voluntary Participation!

"Vendors": Does your organization, collective, network or independant person feel called to table at this event? We have approximatly 7 to 9 available tables in the space.

We will be centering BIPOC voices, so we will be very transparently prioritizing BIPOC vendors. Please still apply if you are a Settler based Queer org, and we will let you know ASAP if there is space!

This section will also include any services that require physical space!

Some examples of "vendor" or service tables: clothing or jewelry offerings (selling or by donation), tarot reading, manicures, youth collectives, climate activists, etc.

Please be ready to bring all your own supplies, as we will only be providing the table.

    There is no "vendor" fee.

Community Wellness Offerings: Do you or your organization feel called to share abundance with community?

These will be items offered for free to our Queer communnity!

Examples: Food or bus certificates, Harm Reduction supplies and resources, Plant medicines, teas, handmade items, care products, tote bags, etc.

We are trying to expand on what "Wellness" means to the collective, so if you are called to offer anything that you feel fits, please do!

Expectations: Please clearly and transparently label any products containing more than one ingredients. We require this for any product or consummable offerings. These are also Queer Inclusive and community based offerings, so any propoganda, harmful narratives, or hurtful offerings will be immediately thrown away and the offererer 🚫Forbbiden🚫 from future events. Please keep it mindful and demure. 💅

Key Note Speakers: Do you or your organization feel called to share community knowoledge, a workshop, or a presentation?

We will hold space for these throughout the day.

    Some notes:

-These will probably be happening simutaneously with other events happening at tables, but we have access to a microphone and speaker system.

-The event schedule will be sent out ahead of time, and we will try to accomodate as many speakers as we can, so please make sure to include the duration of your talk and your prefered time in your offering application

-The windows will be open to allow the sun in for haircuts, so there will be no screen available for presentations, this is a talk only space

Again, we want to expand on wellness, so please offer up whatever you feel fits!

Monetary Offerings: Do you or your organization feel called to support our work financially?

We are putting this event on for free! However, we would love to be able to offer a small catered nourishment throughout the day, pay our "vendors" and key note speakers, and pay ourselves for some of the costs of the offerings we have committed to. If you are in a financially stable place, we would appriciate your monetary support.
