  • Our laws should support and protect Australian women and girls, while also ensuring fairness and dignity for all Australians.

Recent legal developments and court decisions have raised important questions about how Australia’s laws balance protections for women, particularly in relation to single-sex spaces, safety, and the administration of justice.

Many Australians are rightly concerned about the unintended consequences of amendments made by the Gillard Government to the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 in 2013, including how these laws operate in practice in areas such as corrections, sentencing, and access to women’s spaces.

The recent decision of the Full Federal Court has further highlighted the need for greater clarity in the law regarding protections for women and girls.

As Shadow Minister for Women, I want to hear directly from Australian women about their experiences, concerns, and perspectives. It is important that any future changes to the law are informed by respectful consultation and careful consideration of their real-world impacts.

This is not about removing protections from anyone. It is about ensuring that our laws appropriately safeguard women’s rights, safety, privacy and wellbeing, while maintaining respect for all members of the community.

I want to work constructively with Australians to ensure our laws provide clarity, fairness and confidence for everyone.

The safety of all citizens should be a top priority for members of Parliament.

As Shadow Minister for Women, I want to hear directly from you about your experiences.
