    The Opportunity

Applications are invited from outstanding domestic candidates for a fully funded research-based PhD scholarship, based at the School of Education and Culture at the Faculty of Education in Melbourne, Australia.

The successful applicant will work alongside a team of researchers from across Australia who are working on an Australian Research Council funded project entitled Hitting the Limits: Intersectional sexisms in Australian universities. The scholarship will fund a project that examines LGBTIQA+ academics’ institutional locations, experiences and private and professional means of support within Australian universities. Applicant are encouraged to develop their own research project in relation to the following key questions:

    • Where are LGBTIQA+ academics in Australia located in terms of discipline and geographical location?
    • Do LGBTIQA+ academics in Australia feel welcome within their workplaces?
    • What support mechanisms and/or strategies to LGBTIQA+ academic staff draw upon in their private and professional worlds?

The project Hitting the Limits responds to the limits of Australian university culture by examining the conditions that limit social cohesion in relation to gender. The project generates new theoretical, cultural and practical knowledge about how experiences of intersectionality, gender, power and complexity shape universities.

Joining our thriving research community at the School of Education and Culture and Monash Faculty of Education which is consistently ranked as the number 1 education faculty in Australia, your PhD project will offer an opportunity to connect with students and leading experts across the globe.
