Defend Negros Coalition NorCal
Defend Negros NorCal Coalition brings together individuals and organizations to join a collective community effort to wage the Defend Negros Campaign. Defend Negros aims to activate and engage as many people as possible to utilize their talents to demand Justice for the Negros 19 to Defend Negros, and to continue advocacy. We welcome all who are inspired by the life of Lyle, Kai and the 17 other victims and the issues that they dedicated their life to i.e. struggles of farm workers and peasants in the countryside, land struggles, human rights in the Philippines.
The Coalition welcomes individuals and organizations who want to develop projects ie. fundraisers, immersion trips to Negros, art and cultural endeavors, advocacy work, statements, protests, etc. The Coalition may convene once per month for mass political education, synthesized updates, sharings, etc. Coalition members can also contribute to the campaign through joining one of the committees: Research & Education, Propaganda, Media, Advocacy & Legislative, Finance, Outreach. A steering committee will serve to support with the day to day functioning of the Defend Negros coalition.
Coalition members are encouraged to contribute to local Defend Negros Island fights, such as building Philippine solidarity with striking C&H workres and targeting Bay Area AI/war tech companies that contribute to militarization in Negros.
Any interested individuals and organizations can join the Defend Negros Coalition by agreeing to the Points of Unity. All can participate in or host various activities and projects under the banner of Defend Negros NorCal.
Points of Unity:
We unite to support the families and communities of the Negros 19 in their fight for justice for their loved ones.
We unite to hold the Philippine government, including the Consulate, accountable for the violations of International Humanitarian Law through its massacre of 19 individuals and continued repression of the peasant farmers of Negros and elsewhere in the Philippines.
We unite to expose and oppose the war profiteers in AI and Tech industries located here in the Bay Area, especially those who are known to support the Philippine military.
We unite to educate on the people’s issues in Negros & the Philippines to the broader community, including labor organizations, schools, churches, legislators, and elected politicians, to solicit their support.
