Juneteenth 2026 Application
  • Juneteenth 2026 Vendor Application

Thank you for your interest in vending at the 2026 Juneteenth Festival!
  • New for 2026: Vendor Selection Process

We are intentionally curating the vendor list this year to ensure multiple vendors with the same products are not being selected in order to drive the success of our community vendors.

We appreciate you all, and even if you are not selected for this event, this does not mean you will not be selected to participate in future ACLT events or activities. Applying will place you on our vendor list and you will be notified first for all future events.

  • Vendor Type Descriptions

    Food Vendors
If you’re serving or selling prepared eats or drinks—hot, cold, or packaged—you’re a food vendor. That includes fried fish, BBQ, grilled meats, soul food plates, seafood boils, egg rolls, samosas, African dishes, vegan bowls, and just about any other tasty meal or bite you can think of. It also covers juice bars, tea makers, smoothie artisans, cold brew crews, and dessert makers offering cupcakes, cobblers, ice cream, and cookies. Pre-packaged goods specialists, you’re part of the bunch too—BBQ sauces, spice blends, jams, preserves, and baked treats are welcome.

    Marketplace Vendors
If you sell products or offer paid services (outside of food), you’re a marketplace vendor. Think handmade jewelry, African waist beads, t-shirts, vintage denim, upcycled apparel, natural hair products, skin butters, incense, essential oils, books, vinyl, imported goods, kids’ toys, puzzles, artwork, props and photos, massages, henna art, reiki sessions, sound bowl meditations, or any commercial product, service, or experience. This category also includes vendors selling or promoting non-food goods, services, or their business in any way.

    Informational Vendors
Not selling anything? Ready to share a life-changing message or resource? If you’re offering free information tied to personal growth, wellness, or community impact, you’re an informational vendor. We welcome nonprofits, advocacy orgs, schools, churches, mutual aid networks, youth groups, clubs, and wellness providers offering services like blood pressure checks, birth control support, mental health resources, or parenting tools. These booths are about giving back, building awareness, and being a source of support for the community.

  • Licensing, Permits, & Insurance

  • Business License Requirements

    • All vendors must list the business address that appears on their business license (if applicable) when completing their application.
    • Vendors whose business or organization is located within the City of Seattle are required to have a current City of Seattle Business License and are not eligible to operate under Africatown's tradeshow license.
    • Businesses outside of Seattle may:

Purchase a Seattle Business License independently, or

Opt into Africatowns trade show license

    • Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and government agencies are exempt and do not need to purchase the tradeshow license.

PLEASE NOTE: A federal EIN or state UBI number (ex. 601000111) is not the same as the Seattle business license customer number. You are not required to have a federal EIN or state UBI number to be a vendor.

    • Food Vendor Compliance
    • Instructions
Please carefully read the information provided in this section to ensure your business is compliant with King County food and safety standards.

      Food Permit Compliance

All food vendors participating in Africatown’s Black Wall Street Market Place & Street fair must obtain a Temporary Food Service Permit Application (often referred to as a ‘Temporary Event Application’) to legally operate. Seattle-King County Public Health mandates this permit to ensure vendors follow safe food practices and meet city health standards. We require all food vendors to secure their permit ahead of the event.

      Apply here:
Visit King County's temporary food service page to apply for your permit.

    • Exceptions

Do you really need a food service permit? Maybe not — but it’s your responsibility to find out. Some vendors may qualify for exceptions, meaning they either don’t need a permit at all or only need to submit a brief Exempt from Permit application.

Read on to see if you’re Exception A or Exception B:

      Exception A: No Permit Needed
You don’t need a food service permit if you’re only selling prepackaged, low-risk, shelf-stable foods such as bottled drinks, packaged baked goods, or whole fruits and vegetables. As long as these items do not require temperature control and come from a licensed source, you are likely fully exempt from permitting requirements. But, check here to confirm: King County Food Exemptions

      Exception B: Exempt Application Needed
Some foods are considered low-risk, but still require oversight from Seattle-King County Public Health to ensure they’re being handled safely. If you're offering items like popcorn, cotton candy, slushies, roasted nuts, corn on the cob, chocolate-dipped treats, or fruit and vegetable samples, you’ll need to submit an Exempt from Permit application. This isn’t a full health inspection — just a quick approval process so the County can verify your setup is safe and compliant.

    • For Food Vendors with a 2025 Multiple or Unlimited Temporary Event Permit

If you’ve already purchased a Multiple (pack of 5) or Unlimited Temporary Event Permit for 2025, here’s what you need to know:

      1. You still need to apply for a permit for each event.
Holding a multi-event permit does not mean you're automatically registered for every event. You must submit an application through the online portal for each event you plan to attend.

      2. Review your booth setup.
Your booth will fall into one of the following categories:

      • Simple: Selling only sealed, pre-packaged items or handing out materials.
      • Moderate: Involving limited on-site food handling, such as reheating pre-cooked items, holding food hot or cold, or assembling ready-to-eat foods.
      • Complex: Preparing or serving food on-site, using heat or refrigeration, or operating handwashing stations.

      3. Certified Booth Operator (CBO) is required for certain setups.
If your booth is classified as Moderate or Complex, you must have a Certified Booth Operator (CBO) on site during the event.  This person must be trained in food safety and responsible for managing booth operations.

    • (Food Trucks, Trailers, and Carts)

If you hold an Annual Operating Permit for your mobile food unit (your permit number begins with “PR”), you must still register for each individual event and meet all on-site health and safety requirements to participate. Holding an annual permit does not automatically enroll you in events—you are responsible for submitting the event-specific application and ensuring your unit is fully compliant on event day.

      1. Submit Your Permit Number
When registering, include your Annual Operating Permit number (it starts with “PR”). This allows event organizers to verify that your unit is approved and eligible to operate.

      2. Confirm Your Permit Is Active
Double-check that your Annual Operating Permit is current and not expired. If your permit is inactive or expired, you will not be allowed to vend.

      3. Prepare Your Unit for Inspection
Your unit must be fully set up and ready for inspection before the event begins. This means hot water must be turned on and functioning, your handwashing station must be fully stocked and accessible, and all equipment must be clean, operational, and meet food safety standards.
