    Tamariki Letterbox Decoration Category
Part of the Oxford Winter Lights Festival 2026

This year, we are excited to introduce a brand-new category to the Oxford Winter Lights Festival — Te Kete Whetū – Basket of Stars.

Created especially for tamariki aged 13 years and under, this category invites children and whānau to transform their letterboxes into glowing works of art inspired by Matariki and this year’s theme:

Matariki Herenga Waka – The Mooring Place of Canoes

Across Oxford, small lights will shine brightly as children share their creativity, imagination, and interpretation of what Matariki means to them and their community.

From stars and waka to symbols of whānau, kai, hope, celebration and new beginnings, Te Kete Whetū is designed to encourage young people to become part of the festival in a meaningful and visible way. Whether simple or elaborate, every decorated letterbox will help light up our community during the festival season.

This category celebrates creativity, participation, storytelling and community spirit — reminding us that even the smallest light can shine brightly.

  • Format: (000) 000-0000.
