    Te Ara Pakihi Whetū – The Pathway of Shining Business celebrates the businesses, shopfronts and organisations that help bring life, colour and connection to Oxford throughout the year.

    This category encourages local businesses to illuminate their storefronts, workplaces and public-facing spaces in celebration of Matariki and the Oxford Winter Lights Festival.

    Inspired by this year’s theme:

    Matariki Herenga Waka – The Mooring Place of Canoes

    businesses are invited to create displays that reflect gathering, hospitality, community pride and the coming together of people during the Matariki season.

    From beautifully lit windows and creative installations to interactive displays and themed decorations, Te Ara Pakihi Whetū aims to transform Oxford into a glowing winter destination for locals and visitors alike.

    This category recognises the important role local businesses play in supporting community events, creating welcoming spaces and helping our town shine brightly during winter.

    Businesses entering Te Ara Pakihi Whetū are asked to:

    Decorate a business frontage, shop window, building exterior or customer-facing area


    Include illuminated or glowing elements


    Reflect the 2026 Matariki theme:
    Matariki Herenga Waka – The Mooring Place of Canoes


    Incorporate themes of:

    * Community
    * Celebration
    * Whanaungatanga
    * Hospitality
    * Hope and renewal


    Ensure displays are safe, weather appropriate and publicly visible
    Maintain displays throughout the festival period where possible


    Businesses are encouraged to think creatively and create displays that help attract visitors into town during the festival season.
