  • SHINE (St. Joe's Helping In Neighborhoods Everywhere) is St. Joe's summer service camp for incoming 7th & 8th graders, led by St. Joseph Youth Ministry.

    SHINE Dates: July 13-17, 2026

    If you love being around young people and want to help out in a fun, faith-filled way, we would love to have you as a SHINE adult volunteer!

    You do not need to commit to the entire week. Volunteering for even one day is a huge help. Adult volunteer hours are 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with some flexibility depending on the day.


    What Do SHINE Adult Volunteers Do?
    Adult volunteers are there to support and empower our high school SHINE Team Captains, who lead each group throughout the week. These teens take on the real leadership, and your role is to walk alongside them, empower them, and assist with whatever the team needs.

    Before SHINE week begins, we will host our SHINE Kickoff and Training on July 8th in the evening to walk through what the week looks like, answer questions, and introduce you to our team. We make sure you feel supported, prepared, and confident. On the day you volunteer, you will receive a SHINE t-shirt. We ask that you wear it so teens can easily identify safe adults, and we can keep groups organized.

    Adult volunteers are needed each day to help supervise teens. All volunteers must meet the Archdiocese of Chicago compliance requirements for working with youth, and we are happy to guide you through that process.

    Each day will have different service projects at various locations, but please plan to meet at St. Joseph each day. We will go together to the off-site locations. 

    Please plan on joining us on Wednesday, July 8th for our SHINE Kickoff and Training.

  • As a SHINE adult volunteer, I agree to the following:

    • I will attend the required SHINE Kickoff & Training on Wednesday, July 8th in the evening.
    • I understand that the parish is not responsible for having medical personnel available during SHINE events or associated activities. However, parish staff may authorize or perform emergency medical treatment if they believe it is necessary for my health, safety, and well-being. In the event that immediate medical examination and/or treatment is required, I hereby authorize the parish personnel to seek the necessary medical services for me. I accept financial responsibility for any diagnosis, treatment, or medication deemed necessary.
    • I agree to cover all costs associated with any medical and dental services provided to me under this authorization. This release form applies to the time period from July 13–17, 2026.
    • I understand that neither the Catholic Bishop of Chicago, A Corporation Sole, nor St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville will be held liable for any loss or damage to my property prior to, during, or after the event, due to theft, fire, accident, or any other cause beyond their control.
    • I give permission for St. Joseph SHINE to contact me via phone, text, email, and/or social media.
    • I authorize the Parish to use and reuse my image, likeness, and voice in any photographs, video recordings, and/or audio recordings (collectively referred to as “Recordings”) for educational, marketing, or promotional purposes without compensation or prior notice. These materials may be used in the parish bulletin, on websites, social media, brochures, magazines, books, or other communications at any time.
