Description:
This workshop explores how to identify, access, strengthen, and develop community resources that support people in recovery. Participants will learn strategies for finding existing resources, recognizing gaps in services, and using lived experience to help improve or create supports that meet community needs. We will also examine how peers can play an active role in building stronger, more responsive recovery communities.
Learning Objectives
Identify a variety of community resources that support individuals in recovery and learn strategies for locating them.
Recognize gaps within communities and explore ways to advocate for improvements to existing resources.
Describe how lived experience can inform the development, enhancement, and effective use of community-based supports and services.
Facilitator:
Jeffrey Santo is the Executive Director of Recovery Innovations for Pursuing Peer Leadership andEmpowerment (RIPPLE), a peer-led nonprofit organization based in Connecticutfocused on advocacy, support, and community-driven recovery initiatives forindividuals facing mental health and addiction challenges. Drawing from his ownlived experience within the mental health system, Jeffrey has spent yearsworking to strengthen peer-led services, expand access to support, and elevatethe voices of those directly impacted by behavioral health systems He isrecognized as someone dedicated to advancing the interests of the peer recoverycommunity and for promoting lived experience as a meaningful form of expertiseand leadership. His work has centered on building peer-driven alternatives,fostering open conversations around recovery and suicide prevention, andencouraging greater inclusion of peer voices in the future of mental health andaddiction services.
