Job Overview:
The Technical Operations Center Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day operations within the Technical Operations Center supporting live event broadcast workflows. This role is hands-on, operational, and supervisory, ensuring live events are properly prepared, monitored, supported, escalated, and documented from pre-event setup through post-event completion.
The TOC Supervisor oversees real-time monitoring of live event feeds, critical systems, signal paths, and partner deliveries to ensure broadcast continuity, technical quality, and on-air stability. This position works closely with Master Control, Engineering, Production, Transmission, and external partners to validate event readiness, manage operational workflows, communicate status updates, and respond quickly to technical issues.
The ideal candidate has strong live broadcast experience, excellent troubleshooting judgment, and the ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where accuracy, timing, and communication are critical.
General Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time direction and support to TOC operators during live events, testing, and daily operations.
- Supervise TOC operators during live event coverage, ensuring all workflows are executed according to established SOPs and event requirements.
- Monitor live event feeds, contribution paths, distribution paths, and critical broadcast systems in real time to ensure video/audio quality, continuity, and on-air stability.
- Oversee event readiness activities including pre-event validation, source verification, route checks, redundancy confirmation, comms checks, and checklist completion.
- Execute and supervise operational workflows during events, including signal routing, source switching, escalation actions, and partner coordination in accordance with approved procedures.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve common broadcast issues including signal loss, audio mapping issues, format mismatches, latency, captioning issues, comms problems, and routing failures.
- Maintain situational awareness across multiple concurrent events and ensure the team is prioritizing issues based on severity and customer impact.
- Assist with training, coaching, and development of TOC staff on workflows, tools, SOPs, escalation processes, and technical fundamentals.
- Reinforce operational discipline, including checklist compliance, clear communication, accurate logging, and timely escalation.
- Support scheduling, shift coverage, and operational planning as needed to ensure adequate event support.
- Serve as a primary operational point of contact during assigned shifts for Master Control, Engineering, Production, Transmission, and external partners.
- Escalate technical issues quickly and clearly using defined severity guidelines and escalation paths.
- Provide concise, accurate status updates during live incidents, including issue description, impact, actions taken, current status, and next steps.
- Coordinate with internal and external teams to confirm source availability, event timing, delivery requirements, and restoration plans.
- Participate in post-event reviews and incident follow-ups to identify root cause, corrective actions, and process improvements.
Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of experience in live broadcast operations, TOC/NOC, master control, transmission, or a comparable real-time technical operations role.
- Prior experience supporting live event workflows in a high-pressure broadcast or media operations environment.
- Working knowledge of video/audio signal flow and broadcast fundamentals (routing, monitoring, encoding/decoding concepts, redundancy).
Comfort working in a multi-monitor, real-time operations environment with strict timing and accuracy requirements.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure, follow SOPs precisely, and make quick decisions within defined escalation paths.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (clear status updates, accurate documentation).
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and variable schedules based on live event coverage.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting live sports, premium live events, or high-profile broadcast programming.
- Experience with HDR/SDR workflows and video format validation.
- Familiarity with IP-based broadcast concepts (e.g., SMPTE ST 2110, 2022-7, PTP) and/or cloud production environments.
- Experience with broadcast automation, monitoring tools, intercom/IFB workflows, and ticketing/incident tracking systems.
- Understanding of captioning workflows, loudness/compliance requirements, SCTE signaling, and partner delivery specifications.
- Experience participating in incident reviews, root cause analysis, and operational process improvement.

Salary Range:
65-85K DOE
