Foster Approval Process
A completed foster application is required prior to placement. A home check must be completed by YMM Animal Relocation Center before any animal(s) can be placed in your care. All foster approvals and placement decisions are at the discretion of YMM Animal Relocation Center. All animals placed in foster care remain the sole property of YMM Animal Relocation Center unless otherwise agreed to in writing.
Communication & Support
Communication and support are central to our fostering program. Updates and coordination regarding foster animals are shared through group chats to ensure that all caregivers remain informed. Open and timely communication is essential. If at any point fostering becomes overwhelming, confusing, or stressful, foster families are encouraged to contact YMM Animal Relocation Center immediately. Our team is always available to provide guidance, clarification, or adjustments as needed.
General Foster Expectations
Foster families are responsible for providing a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for their animals, including daily care, supervision, and socialization. All medical care and decisions must be approved or coordinated through YMM Animal Relocation Center. Families must supervise interactions between foster animals, children, and any resident pets to ensure safety. Animals may need to move on short notice due to medical needs, safety considerations, transport, or adoption placement. Home visits from approved adopters or YMM Animal Relocation Center representatives may be required. Animals may not be re-homed, transferred, or given away without prior written approval from YMM Animal Relocation Center.
Veterinary care and emergencies must be managed in coordination with YMM Animal Relocation Center. Foster families should contact the organization before any veterinary visit except in cases of emergencies, which should be reported to YMM Animal Relocation Center immediately. Families may be asked to transport animals for appointments, adoption events, or meet and greets organized by YMM Animal Relocation Center. Any concerning behaviours or health issues should be reported promptly.
Puppies in Foster Care
Placements for puppies are typically temporary, with most being adopted between eight and ten weeks of age. YMM Animal Relocation Center provides puppy food, pee pads, and age-appropriate supplies.
Supplies & Expenses
Necessary supplies will be provided when requested and approved by YMM Animal Relocation Center. Expenses for related foster supplies purchased independently without prior authorization are not reimbursable.
Photos & Updates
Foster families are required to provide regular photo updates and brief check-ins to support adoption profiles and social outreach. Social media posts regarding foster animals should follow YMM Animal Relocation Center guidelines. Foster families must not make commitments or representations on behalf of the organization.
Adoptions & Expressions of Interest
If a foster family decides to adopt a fostered animal, all standard adoption policies of YMM Animal Relocation Center apply. Friends or family members interested in adopting must also complete the standard, full adoption process, and no adoptions are finalized without approval from YMM Animal Relocation Center.
Confidentiality Agreement
All personal information collected through this application and foster placement process will be kept confidential and used only for program administration, animal care, and placement coordination.
Information may be shared with authorized staff, volunteers, and veterinary partners as needed to support the health and wellbeing of the animal. Information will not be shared outside the organization without consent, except where required by law or for safety or animal welfare reasons.
Foster caregivers agree to maintain confidentiality regarding all personal, organizational, and case related information encountered through the program, including that of other volunteers, adopters, and clients. This includes not sharing identifying details on social media or public platforms.
Photos and stories related to foster animals may be shared publicly only when they do not contain identifying or sensitive information, unless approved by the organization.
This agreement remains in effect during and after participation in the foster program
Care & Commitment
Foster families agree to provide a safe, clean, and nurturing environment, along with daily care, supervision, and socialization. Foster placements are temporary, and animals as well as YMM Animal Relocation Center-owned supplies must be returned promptly if requested. Families acknowledge that animals may behave unpredictably and accept responsibility for supervision and safety while the animals are in their care.
Fostering with YMM Animal Relocation Center is a rewarding experience, providing animals with the care they need while helping them transition to permanent homes. We appreciate your commitment and the role you play in supporting our mission to relocate and care for animals in need.
