GOTA STATION OPERATOR QUALIFICATIONS:
From the Field Day rules:
“The GOTA station may be operated by any person licensed since the previous year’s Field Day, regardless of license class. It may also be operated by a generally inactive licensee. Non-licensed persons may participate under the direct supervision of an appropriate control operator.” GOTA operator requirements - our interpretation/clarification: “Licensed since the previous year’s Field Day, regardless of license class.” Any person who has earned a Technician, General, or Extra class license since June 29, 2025, may be a GOTA operator using any mode. The number of contacts is unlimited.
“Non-licensed persons may participate under the direct supervision of an appropriate ontrol operator.” We will have control operators/coaches available throughout the event. No experience necessary! Even for CW! The number of contacts is unlimited. We interpret a “generally inactive licensee” as one who has made less than 100 CW, or SSB, or Digital QSO's since last Field Day. Participation in QSO parties, contests, and SOTA/POTA since last Field Day is OK, if the 100 cumulative QSO limit for an individual mode (CW or SSB or Digital) has not been exceeded.
Example 1- You participated in the WPX SSB Contest and made 101 QSOs using SSB. It will be OK to operate the GOTA Station using CW or Digital if you have less than 100 QSOs for those modes since the last Field Day.
Example 2 - You primarily operated FT8 since the last Field Day and have more than 100 FT8 QSOs since last Field Day. It is OK to operate the GOTA station in SSB or CW if you have less than 100 QSOs with those modes.
Qualification is on the honor system.
