SkyHawks Marching Regiment
Director of Instrumental Music: James C. Sharp
The SkyHawks Music Program includes every student in the band program. When combined with the Color Guard, the entire group is known as the "SkyHawks Marching Regiment". The SkyHawks Marching Regiment has a long history of great traditions, pride and excellence. The marching band performs at all SHS pep rallies, varsity football games, and marching contests. Membership in the Marching Band is required of all band students. In addition to the regular scheduled class, the Marching Band rehearses daily during 4th period and after school on different days depending on the section in the band room. Marching Band students are eligible to receive a physical education credit for membership in Marching Band. (Maximum of 2 years of PE credits)
Color Guard/Winter Guard

The color guard is the primary visual component of the SkyHawks Marching Regiment. Winter Guard is offered during second semester only. Membership in this organization is open to all students at Summit High School. Emphasis is placed upon the development of movement and visual artistry through the use of equipment, props and dance techniques. The Color Guard rehearses/performs in conjunction with all Marching Band related activities. Students will be required to attend all marching band rehearsals and additional separate rehearsals set by the directors. Winter Guard is the spring-semester version of Color Guard. Winter Guard rehearses and performs independently of the marching band. Winter Guard membership is by audition in the fall in late November and held in the Spring. Students and parents should refer to the band handbook as the primary governing document for this organization. Due to the group's unique nature, however, the director may provide more specific information and expectations in the form of separate handbook addendums. Please note Winter Guard is during the 2nd semester and also has an additional pack associated with this program. More information will be available towards the end of the fall season.
Percussion

Percussion Caption Head: Robert Bowen
The heartbeat of the program is the percussion section. The program, led by Robert Bowen, is made up of various percussion instruments. In the fall, the percussion is part of the SkyHawks Marching Regiment. Both sections, Battery, and Front Ensemble, keep the rhythm and pace of the music. In the Spring, the Indoor percussion season begins, The percussion section performs separate from the SkyHawks Marching Regiment on their own inside gyms..
Concert Band/Wind Ensemble

Students are placed in concert band or wind ensemble according to their playing ability, attitude, participation, classification, and instrumentation needs. Students may move from band to orchestra as deemed necessary or appropriate. The concert bands provide for a wide range of playing abilities and time commitments. With team teaching, students will have the opportunity to experience full band, sectionals, and individual attention. Additional rehearsal expectations and membership requirements are noted in the following descriptors.
Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble will meet in the spring semester at SHS after school. The director of the Jazz Band will set the rehearsal schedule. Membership in the Jazz Ensemble is by audition and approval of the director only. A student must be a member of one of the performing ensembles at Summit High School in order to be a member of the Jazz Ensemble. The Jazz Ensemble may compete/perform at Solo & Ensemble and a spring Jazz Festival as well as other civic events.
