  • Accredited Marine Surveyor Renewal Application

    Application to renew Marine Surveyor Accreditation under the Accredited Grain Surveyor Assurance Scheme
  • Eligibility

    Applicants must have held AGSA accreditation for the previous accreditation period and provide AIMS with the following:

    1. An FTL certificate for a survey that was conducted between July 1 2025 and June 30 2026
    2. A copy of your current insurance Certificate

     

    Insurance evidence requirements

    You must hold current Professional Indemnity Insurance with a limit of liability that is not less than $1,000,000. If you are a sole trader, the insurance certification must be in your name or your Business name.

     If you are employed by a company or organisation, you must provide a copy of your employer’s Certificate of Insurance.

    Other requirements

    You must pay the fees for accreditation for the period July 1 2026 to June 30 2028

    You must also complete this form honestly and sign the last page.

  • New information

    From 1 July 2026, the AGSA accreditation period has been changed. From this date the accreditation period will be for 2 years and the fees have increased. Please view the new fees on the AIMS website.

    The Standard for Empty Bulk Vessel surveys has been updated and contains new information on the role and responsibilities of the accredited surveyor and the new FTL certificate which is a mandatory format that must be used from July 1 2026.

    Accredited Surveyors will also now be audited and monitored for compliance to the Standard.

    A Code of Conduct has been developed and accredited surveyors must commit to working in accordance with the Code. 

    All of the new documents are available via the AIMS website - accredited marine surveyor portal.

     

    Marine surveyors seeking to become re-accredited must submit this form prior to June 15 2026 to ensure that there is sufficient time for AIMS to process the application prior to the accreditation expiry date of June 30 2026.. 

  • Applications

    Eligible persons may apply for renewal of their accreditation by AIMS under the AGSA Scheme by:

    1.           paying the applicable fees to AIMS; and

    2.           completing and submitting this form to AIMS; and 

    3.           providing copies of ALL required supporting documents to AIMS.

    AIMS encourages you to read the Standards for Empty Bulk Vessel Surveys and the AGSA Accreditation Policy to ensure that you are familiar with the application process and the terms and conditions of accreditation under the AGSA Scheme.

     

    Payment of Fees
    An accreditation annual fee is payable by the applicant prior to accreditation being approved. The fees are outlined in the fee schedule on the AIMS website and subject to change at the discretion of AIMS.

     The accreditation period is for 2 years from July 1 2026 and expires on June 30 2028. Thereafter, the accreditation period will renew every two years.

     Renewal Applications

    Accreditation will be required to be renewed by the 1st of July every second year. To ensure that your accreditation is maintained you must apply for renewal by June 15 of the expiry year. Accreditations which are not renewed by this date or do not comply with the bulk vessel survey requirement will expire and the Marine Surveyor will no longer be accredited to undertake bulk vessel surveys under the AGSA Scheme until all requirements are met and the accreditation has been renewed. If you are currently, or have been at any time during the current accreditation period an Accredited Marine Surveyor under the AGSA Scheme, you are required to pay the annual accreditation fee when you renew your accreditation. You are not required to pay an application fee unless your accreditation was expired for more than 60 days.

    By submitting this form, you confirm that you understand and agree to the following terms:

     1.      AIMS will process this application in accordance with the AGSA Accreditation Policy, and you agree to participate in that process as necessary in good faith and in a manner that will enable AIMS to efficiently process and determine your application.

    2.      If granted, your accreditation under the AGSA Scheme will continue until it the expiry date on your ID card. If you wish to renew your accreditation beyond the expiry date, you must submit a further application for accreditation in accordance with the AGSA Accreditation Policy.  

    3.      AIMS may provide your personal information to third parties in accordance with the Privacy Act and as otherwise required or compelled by law.

    4.      AIMS will handle and investigate any complaints made in relation to any Accredited Marine Surveyor in accordance with the AGSA Complaint Handling and Investigation Policy.

    5.      Where a decision by AIMS is able to be reviewed, that review will be conducted in accordance with the processes set out in the AGSA Complaint Handling and Investigation Policy.

    6.      Whilst you are an Accredited Marine Surveyor, you will:

    • comply with all policies and guidance notes enacted in respect of the              AGSA Scheme from time to time;
    • comply with all laws relevant to the performance of Bulk Vessel Surveys          and other activities engaged in by you as a marine surveyor 

    • hold and maintain for the term of your accreditation a professional                indemnity insurance policy in respect of your work as a marine surveyor,        taken out with a reputable insurer and with a limit of no less than                  $1,000,000.00;

    • promptly inform AIMS in writing of any changes to your:

                                      i.     personal information;

                                      ii.     employment details or arrangements;

                                      iii.     professional indemnity insurance;

                                      iv.     eligibility for accreditation under the AGSA Scheme; a

    •  conduct your work in accordance with the Standards and Guidance Notes       and Code of Conduct.  

    7.      AIMS is not responsible for your work as a marine surveyor, and your accreditation does not create an employment (or similar) relationship between you and AIMS. AIMS is not responsible for your conduct and it is your responsibility to ensure that you are competently and properly carrying out your work and duties as a marine surveyor, including in performing bulk vessel surveys, in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations.

    8.      You indemnify, and will keep indemnified, AIMS against all claims (including any action, claim, proceeding, expense including legal costs, demand or damages, whether prospective or realised, and whether arising before, while or after you are an Accredited Marine Surveyor under the AGSA) made against AIMS which arise from or in connection with:

    a.      Your eligibility to make this application, and any representation made by you in relation to that eligibility;

    b.      Any act or omission (whether or not negligent) done or omitted to be done by you in the course of, or in connection with (whether directly or indirectly) your work as a marine surveyor, including but not limited to the performance of bulk vessel surveys; and

    c.      any representation (whether or not fraudulent) made by you in relation to your qualifications, identity, or accreditation status.

You consent to the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors and the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry  using and disclosing your personal information,  the information contained in this application (including supporting documents and photographic evidence) and any other documentation related to your accreditation for the purpose of assessing, verifying, and investigating compliance with the Export Control (Plants and Plant Products) Rules 2021] and the Standards for Empty Bulk Vessel Inspections.
