  • DRESSAGE COMPETITION

    Interschool Dressage runs in accordance with the current EA National Dressage Rules. The current national dressage rules and tests can be found on the Equestrian Australia Website.

    1. Primary students are permitted to ride in primary classes, and also open elementary and medium. These classes are eligible at national levels.

    2. Riders are permitted to enter two consecutive levels per horse where the competition is spread over two days. Horse welfare sets a maximum of 3 tests per horse per day. Therefore riders may compete in one dressage level and ride one extra test as per EA Dressage Rules.

    3. Horses may not compete below their graded level (if an official dressage grading applies) unless H.C. Exception: Horses graded FEI are permitted to compete Advanced if no FEI classes are offered. 

    4. If entries in a particular dressage level exceed 35 in number, the class should be split randomly into two divisions or a reserve list can be established. It is important divisions are not formed according to year level, ability or school etc. 

    5. Prix St George and Intermediate 1 may run as a Small Tour Championship. Combinations entering these classes must have competed at Advanced level in two separate competitions and gained a minimum qualifying 60% per the current EA National Dressage Rules to be eligible to compete.

    6. Riders cannot compete if their helmet is not tagged to confirm compliance with the current EA Safety standards.

    Note: Combinations may only compete in 2 tests at the higest level; either Advanced and PSG (but not necessarily gain championship points) or PSG and Inter 1.

    Interschool Jumping runs in accordance with the current EA National Jumping Rules. The current national jumping rules and tests can be found on the Equestrian Australia Website.

    Definition: Competitors pay a bulk entry into one level to compete in three phases For example: Phase 1 - 238.2.1, Phase 2 - 274.5.3, Phase 3 - 238.2.2.

    1. Primary students are able to compete in higher grades of jumping - they are not restricted to ride in classes with Primary levels. Exception to this rule includes the following competitions/events; the Victorian Interschool State Championships and the Interschool National Championships, whereby primary school riders are not permitted to ride at levels higher than the allocated primary class levels, irrespective of ranking. 

    2. Riders are only permitted to compete in one height class per horse (i.e. a rider may not compete in the 80cm and the 90cm on the same horse). 

    3. After the commencement of the competition, if the riders wish to change height classes, the rider will then compete HC in subsequent classes and be ineligbile for championship/class points or placings.

    4. Riders cannot compete if their helmet is not tagged to confirm compliance with the current EA Safety standards.

    VEIS INTERSCHOOL CLASSES GENERAL CONDITIONS

    Definition: Competitors pay a bulk entry into one level to compete in two phases (Phase 1 - 274.5.3 and Phase 2 273.3.1 or 238.2.2).

    1. Primary students are able to compete in higher grades of jumping - they are not restricted to ride in classes with Primary levels. Exception to this rule includes the following competitions/events; the Victorian Interschool State Championships and the Interschool National Championships, whereby primary school riders are not permitted to ride at levels higher than the allocated primary class levels, irrespective of ranking. 

    2. Secondary riders may ride in Freshmans, however, if a specific secondary section is not offered, they are deemed to compete HC. No placing is awarded nor any points accrued.

    4. Riders cannot compete if their helmet is not tagged to confirm compliance with the current EA Safety standards.

    EV INTERSCHOOL HEIGHT CLASSES GENERAL RULES 

    Definition: Competitors pay an individual entry into separate classes which may vary across different heights in accordance with the EA National Jumping Rules. There is no requirements for the organising committee to offer multiple classes (phases) per each height. 

    1. Competitons are to comply with the FEI and EA National Jumping Rules and Article Numbers. It is the responsibility of the rider to know the current rules. 

    2. Horses are permitted to compete in a maximum of 3 height classes per a day or as outlined in the organising committee schedule. Where the OC's has outlined a maximum of 2 height classes per horse in the competition/event program the lower number of maximum rounds will take precedence.

    3. Riders competing in interschool height classes where open EA classes are also running should wear their school uniform for the interschool height class only. Interschool classesmust be indicated on entry and recoreded as such

    One round against Optimum Time Athletes with equality of penalties are placed in accordance with the time closest either side to the Optimum Time.  Athletes in this round who come in under or over the Optimum Time by more than 10 seconds will have 1 time penalty added to their score for every elapsed second over the ten seconds.

    Interschool Combined Training runs in accordance with the current EA National Eventing Rules. The current national eventing rules can be found on the Equestrian Australia Website.

    1. Primary students are able to compete in higher grades of combined training- they are not restricted to ride in classes with Primary levels. Exception to this rule includes the following competitions/events; the Victorian Interschool State Championships and the Interschool National Championships, whereby primary school riders are not permitted to ride at levels higher than the allocated primary class levels, irrespective of ranking. 

    2. Riders are only permitted to compete in one class per horse. 

    3. The same rider and horse combination must complete both phases of the competition.

    4. Eventing rider combinations cannot compete in Combined Training at a level lower than their current eventing level.

    5. Primary 35cm should be for younger, less experienced riders commencing competition.

    6. Dressage Tests for the combined training should be the same as for the relevent official eventing levels, but may be official dressage tests when run in conjuction with a dressage competition. 

    7. Combined Training events running in combination with a Dressage Championship need to follow horse welfare guidelines - a maximum of three Dressage tests in one day or two Dressage tests and one jumping round per rider and horse combination. 

    8. The differences in Dressage and Combined Training rules in regard to calling of tests and use of a whip are at the discretion of organisers when running a dressage competition inconjunction with combined training (e.g. using the one dressage test for both the dressage championship and combined training dressage phase). 

    9. The Dressage phase for a level needs to commence approximately one hour before the jumping phase. E.g. dressage phase commences at 9:00am the jumping phases commences no earlier than 10:00am.  

    10. Riders cannot compete if their helmet is not tagged to confirm compliance with the current EA Safety standards.

    • Attendance fulfils the “Participation” requirement for entry into the EV State Interschool Championships held in the Term 1 school holidays.
    • The classes run under current EA Interschool Show Horse Rules and any further rules applicable to Interschool.
    • No stallions or colts permitted.
    • Entrants must be currently enrolled at and attending school.  
    • School uniform must be worn.
    • Double bridles are permitted
