  • Safety and Dangerous Goods Information

  • Safety

    All hunters must be prepared to stay up to three extra days due to the remote location and limited aircraft access. Weather can change quickly, and we may need to pick you up earlier or later than planned.

    Pack emergency food such as rice or lightweight dried meals like mashed potato and peas. Satellite communication is required.

    Our pilots cannot safely operate if clients run low on supplies. This preparation keeps both you and our team safe.

    We do not fly in cloud, zero visibility, or high winds.

  • Dangerous Goods

    The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) limit the dangerous goods we can carry. Please take note: 

    • NO LPG bottles with passengers. No exceptions.
    • Ammunition: Max 5kg per person per load.
    • Butane gas cannisters: Max 1 kg per package (not bigger than 500 g each cannister).
    • White Spirits: Max 20 litres per load in approved containers (e.g., petrol/diesel jerry can).
    • Petrol: Max 5 litres per load in approved containers (e.g., petrol/diesel jerry can).

  • Helicopter Loads and Capacity

  • NO LOOSE OR LIGHT ITEMS IN THE HELICOPTER OR ON THE GROUND WHILE WAITING. THESE ARE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS.

     

    MD500 1-3 Passengers

    • One pack or larger square bag each
    • One rifle each 
    • Food boxes 1 x banana box or 4 x wine case size
    • Only certain shaped chilly bins work best
    • NO LPG
    • Maximum Load 380kgs depending on the block

     MD500 4 Passengers (One Load)

    • Two passengers in front and two in back
    • One bag each (must be compressible)
    • One rifle each
    • All gear must fit in the pod
    • No other gear
    • NO LPG
    • Maximum Load 380kgs depending on the block

    R44 1-3 Passengers

    • One roll bag or compressible pack each
    • One rifle and small day pack each
    • One small food box each (maximum wine case size)
    • NO LPG
    • Maximum Load 280kgs depending on the block

    All loads will be weighed so please organise your load before you arrive. Do not bring framed packs or hard rifle cases. Roll bags are easier to pack and easier on the helicopter interior. Banana boxes and wine cases are also ideal.

  • Flight Information

  • Please be patient with our pilots and loaders as they are working to ensure time pressures do not impact your safety. You should expect that the flight days are sometimes travel and camp set-up / take-down days. Do not expect to get in early and get a full day of hunting done every time especially when flying during the busy roar period. 

    Heli Rural intends to land on a mixture of DOC and LINZ managed land. Please remember your areas are Public Conservation Land so it’s open to the public.

    We understand the financial impact and effort you put into organising a trip like this and that it’s frustrating for someone else to arrive at your hunting site. We recommend:

    • Have a backup option prepared so upon arrival at your destination with us. If we see sign of other people, we can fly to your nominated back up option.
    • Have a prepared sign to place on the helipad or hut door with your intentions and dates leaving, this will let anyone know upon arrival that there are hunters here and may deter them from hunting the same territory.
    • Have camping gear available at the truck in case a last-minute decision to camp somewhere is made due to excess people around etc.
    • There is another operator that services a similar area to us. You are within your right to contact them and advise them of your intentions if you are worried about them having clients in the same area.
    • During the summer day fishing parties will slot ahead of hunting parties as they have limited time.
    • Please arrive 30 minutes before your flight time. Also, be ready one hour before your flight time out of your block.
    • If you are late be prepared to wait until all other parties are in before we get to you. One late party puts the whole day behind.
    • Due to bad weather conditions sometimes, we are not able to fly so be prepared for an extra night or 2 in those conditions.

  • Deposit Information

  • After the booking form is received, you will receive an invoice for your flight. Once you receive this invoice, you must pay a non-refundable booking deposit of 15%.

    If the booking is cancelled with 4 weeks’ notice, the deposit can be transferred to another date within 4 weeks of your original flying date. Heli Rural Limited will not refund your deposit for any other reason.

    If you do not pay your deposit, your booking is not confirmed and may be cancelled.

    We accept bank transfers, cash on your in-day or EFTPOS/Visa/MasterCard is available at the hanger.
