Open Call for Artist Submissions: ArtSeed's Our Table

This fall, ArtSeed is proud to collaborate with Saba Grocers Initiative to exhibit two sister shows: Corner to Corner and Our Table. Corner to Corner will feature photography by Nathan Zack that traces Saba Grocers Initiative’s work eliminating food injustice in the Bay Area by building social food chains from small, local farms to neighborhood corner stores. Our Table will respond to Saba’s work through pieces that reflect on food, justice, and well-being by ArtSeed apprentices, high school students in our printmaking program, and other ArtSeed friends and guest artists (such as yourself)!
We invite you to submit work to Our Table that connects food to the concepts of justice and well-being. Your artwork may respond to this theme by exploring:
- Justice issues within food production and food access (such as industrial farming, food labor issues, global food chains, and more)
- How food is a part of cultural, religious, and/or spiritual practices
- What the world would look like if Saba’s vision became a reality: “We envision a healthy community where everyone has access to quality, nutritious, healthy food that can be achieved through a synergistic relationship between corner stores, producers, distributors, farmers, and the communities they serve.”
We welcome submissions from artists of all backgrounds and skill levels! Please note that participation is subject to curatorial approval, and the organizing team reserves the right to refuse any submission at their sole discretion. ARTWORK DROPOFF: Artwork and cultural objects must be dropped off at the ArtSeed office 1007 General Kennedy Ave in the Presidio by 5pm on Monday, October 19th. ArtSeed employees are available to receive artwork Tuesday through Friday, 10am to 5pm and on Saturday, October 3rd from 11am-4pm. Other hours are available via appointment with Patti, patti@artseed.org.
Pick-up Artwork: After 7pm Friday, December 4th, or by appointment.
ARTWORK GUIDELINES:
- You may submit painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, printmaking, textiles and sculpture (see sculpture notes below). Written work, such as poetry, may be considered if it can be printed and hung. Ai artwork will not be accepted.
- 2D Artwork must be framed or otherwise ready to be hung on the wall with a wire. Wires should be attached about ⅓ below the top of the frame or canvas. We prefer wires and not sawtooth hangers. If you have questions, would like to propose a different way of mounting your art, or need help with framing or wiring, please make a note below and reach out to Patti, patti@artseed.org. We are willing to work with you!
- Photographs must be printed at 8 x 10’’ or larger by the photographer. ArtSeed can help you print photographs for a fee. We prefer photographs to be framed. If you need help with framing or would like to propose a different way of mounting your photographs, please make a note below and reach out to Patti, patti@artseed.org.
- Sculptures must fit on a 2 x 2 foot pedestal, or be able to stand on the floor.
