:Position Summary:
The Postpartum Doula provides non-clinical emotional, physical, and educational support to families during the postpartum period. This role focuses on maternal recovery, newborn education, breastfeeding support, infant bonding, and helping families successfully transition during the first year after birth.
The Postpartum Doula works closely with families in home, community, hospital, and virtual settings to provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and family-centered care, with a strong focus on improving outcomes and support for underserved communities, particularly Black and Brown families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-home and hospital postpartum support to families following delivery
- Offer emotional support and encouragement during postpartum recovery
- Assist with newborn care education, soothing techniques, feeding support, and infant bonding
- Support breastfeeding/chestfeeding goals and provide basic lactation guidance within scope
- Monitor maternal wellness and encourage healthy postpartum recovery
- Identify concerns and connect families to appropriate medical or community resources when needed
- Provide education on safe sleep, newborn care, postpartum healing, and self-care
- Assist families with accessing community resources and support services
- Complete required documentation, visit notes, and Medicaid-related documentation accurately and timely
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, supervision, and ongoing professional development
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, hospitals, and community organizations as needed
Qualifications:
- Must be credentialed with New York State Medicaid as a Doula Provider
- Certified Postpartum Doula through a recognized training organization or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years postpartum support experience preferred
- Experience working with diverse and underserved populations
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout all 5 counties within the Western New York region
- CPR certification
- HIPAA compliant
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred
- Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or breastfeeding Training
- Experience with trauma-informed care and maternal mental health awarenes.
