  • The Joe and Mary Azevedo Memorial Scholarship supports students across Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties who demonstrate resilience, character, a love of running, and a commitment to giving back to their communities. Please complete the application below and submit your original essay for consideration.

    1) You must be a resident of Orange County, Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, or Riverside County.

    2) You must be currently enrolled or accepted to an accredited college, university, or vocational program.

    3) You must submit a minimum 1,000-word original essay.

    4) You should be prepared to share your running background, community involvement, and personal story.

    The Azorean Refugee Act of 1958 was born out of a natural disaster and the resilience of families like the Azevedos, who had to start over.

    Describe an "earthquake" in your own life, a significant challenge or setback, and how the discipline you gained through running or community involvement helped you navigate that terrain and reach a new finish line.
