Description

Pterygoid implants provide a graftless approach to maximizing the anterior-posterior spread of implants and avoiding distal cantilevers. Successful pterygoid implant-based rehabilitation requires technique-sensitive surgical protocols and a thorough understanding of pterygomaxillary anatomy. This course will provide an overview of the advantages, anatomic considerations, and surgical and prosthetic treatment planning for pterygoid implant placement. Attendees will be guided through step-by-step hands-on surgical techniques for three different pterygoid implant connections and relevant prosthetic components.

At the completion of the program, participants should be able to:

Recognize the indications, advantages, and clinical rationale for using pterygoid implants in the rehabilitation of atrophic edentulous maxillae and maxillectomy defects.
Gain comprehensive knowledge of pterygomaxillary anatomy and identify potential surgical risks and complications.
Explain radiological, surgical and prosthetic principles of treatment planning for pterygoid implant cases.
Develop the skills to perform pterygoid implant procedures, with attention to anatomical considerations and strategic treatment planning.
